Hey guys, after driving my stock A for three years now I think the time has come to add some power to it. I am thinking of going with a thomas 6.7 head and dual thomas intake. I already have a header that I bought when I got the car that has been collecting dust, it is from Reds. Have a couple questions: Do I run 81's or can I get by with two 97's? Should I also put a cam in it? If yes, what grind? I see specialty cams in Wisconsin make a bunch of different grinds. Any help is appreciated.

 

I read it as a Fuzee, a railroad warning explosive that goes off when a train runs over it.

Is it possable for you to drive it as it is and build another motor up to the power you want. You can change it in the Winter and drive next Spring This gives you a backup to you hotter motor instead of doing this one half way

Two motors are better than one.

Only a suggestion

 

Here is photo of a 4 banger that has a V8 water pump that has a pulley that has a fan on it. I'm also going to use a V8 pump and need that type of pulley. Can I buy one or do need to have made???

I think I have a Bendix Scintilla that will bolt onto that front drive.
Is the opposite side set up for a dist?

That drive is pretty neat. Any names on it? Any idea what the dist. adapter or the oil pump is from? Is the oil pump home hatched? Any more detailed pictures? Norm

Reddy Sacramento vintage Ford use to sell a aluminium replacement waterpump that had that pulley on it.

 

Dan it will be interesting to see a pic when that pump is pulled down looks like someone went to a lot of trouble neat find.

 

BHT8BALL kinda like your front plate better for a street motor lots of options for an oil pump on the front of that as well.

 

Thank you Russtee, I check out S.V. catalog and the fan hub assembly pulley is for the stock like pump I'm looking for the one that is made for the Ford V8 pump. Inclosed is a photo of the car that is running the engine that is running the V8 pump and adaptor I'm looking for. I believe this car has run at F.A.S.T. meets.

That is Art Moore's car. He is running a 32-36 V8 truck pump on that engine. He probably made that set up.

I gave my A a good freeway reliability run on Saturday. I drove the Friken A to & from the Shifters Party in Carona,CA 31 miles away on the 91 to the 71 to the 60 to Valinda ,CA. Th only problem, the tread started pealing on the front driver side tire on the 71 on the way to the show, which took the stress off worrying about the motor. I averaged 60mph from what I was told, the tire did slow me down, it felt like I could have done 65 maybe 70 with rounder front wheels, yeah, rounder front wheels. Oh yeah, anyone got a good 16" tire for sale?

I do not have another motor to build so I was just going to use the one in the car plus I do not have the budget for a full scale build. I have a line on some 81's from a friend of mine, but they are pricey. Do you guys run dual 97's? If so what jets do you use? Also, would the cam help the the head and intake out?

 

If you really don't have the money to rebuild your motor why are you spending money for speed equipment?

Please remember extra horse power may stress everything beyond design limits..... Speed isn't FREE

A second engine core is very little to spend for peace of mind.

No matter how exotic or rare an engine is I always try to have a second engine to modify. Soon I'll be modifying a Rosengart engine it took years to find the correct spare. I'll start with new crank and rods, forged pistons and full pressure oil system. There will be no babbit!

 

Good point Jim- took me 5 years to find my '25 Chevrolet block, and now that I have it, one of the extra '28 blocks will get built for hill climbs, racing, etc... until I find another '25 block

 

And a damned good one at that! That's what I'm thinking about.

Easier to say Jimski, when your mains are ball bearings!

BUT BUT BUT---how are you going to get pressure to the crank with ball bearings---outboard of the pulley, into the very front end?
