I have a 41 ford with a 1959 283 in it. it has a spin on oil adapter and the exhaust is real close to the filter. I just changed the oil and put on a wix # 57099 on it. the filter is real close to the exhaust and is leaking once i turn off the engine.( when running the motor after install it didn't seem to leak.) I previously had a fram filter on it but dumb me can remember what it was and its been tossed. I need a shorter filter to clear the exhaust. a ph 30 is slightly taller then the wix. can anyone help with a recommendation on a shorter filter that will fit?

  2. I think that's the shortest one, I have a pf 454 and it's the same one as your wix. The fram website lists theirs as a 8873 and it's still 3.3" high.

  3. It seems to me that an A/C delco pf 52 or a pf 47 will work also. The pf 52 fits 88-98 4x4 full size pickups, and the pf47 fits v6 car engines, but I'm pretty sure they will both work. Just check the seal size comparison, and then the threads.

The wix filter is a little shorter then the PH 30. I think the ph 30 is 4.4 inchs.

3.3 inchs may be enough. I hope

Way back when, some of the SBC spin-on adaptors (Cal-Custom springs to mind) used a Ford Filter (Fram PH8a). A shorter version of this is the PH43 and a smaller diameter version is a PH16.

Also confirm that the rubber seal from the old filter isn't stuck to the block.

  7. Can you put a remote filter adapter on? I suspect one from an S10 with 4.3 will work, they didn't change the way those things bolt on much over the years.
