I have a 1950 Ford club coupe flathead V8. It is a wide belt 5/8". I would like to know what the part numbers are for both belts. I know one is 55" long and the other is around 37" long. I want to buy from a local part store. Any help would be great.
Ford (and Merc) cars switched to narrow 3/8" belts in 1950, so you may have an early(?) '50, or a '49 V8, so ask for '49 belts. They will probably be a "B" series, ie B-55.
I went through this yesterday trying to find some optional lengths in ⅝" wide belts for my single belt 99A flathead. Three local parts stores including O'Reilly couldn't search belt part numbers by width and length (inner, outer, or effective length), only by application. NAPA was able to do this, but there offerings were somewhat limited. I think NAPA ⅝" belts begin with 22 and the last three numbers are the length, such as 22570 for a 57" belt. Dayco has a dimensional search on their site, but it yields 11/16" wide belts. I brought a Dayco 22625 (62½") home to try, and the slight extra width isn't a problem. These are top cog belts and may not look quite right, but they are super flexible and grippy at lower belt tension. I'm going to test drive it this after noon and see if this belt works.
A lot of guys shop at your tractor supply store for items like this, I know I do. They will have them in green belts (agricultural service) which are tougher than standard belts.
AMEN! Plus these stores are usually 'self serv' so you don't have to deal with some dumbass who just graduated from the Dairy Queen school with a degree in "Auto Parts Service".
NAPA belts, Imperial Length "wide"belts: NBH2524538: 54.33" (stock 1942-48) NBH2524562: 56.625" NBH2524578: 58.375" NBH2524597: 60.25" NBH2524619: 62.50" NBH2524638: 64.25" NBH2524647: 65.25"
Green belts are not very grippy. I used them until I found a replacement. On a '46 the stupid new belt design that you will be given with the cogs on the inside have a tendency to flip the distributor cap bail off. I am gonna get a crab style cap because the non-cog belts are hard to find.
I have an old Goodyear Belts and Hose application book that goes back to 1942. Goodyear is now Continental. The belts you need are 22550 for the Gen & WP, 28373 for the Fan & WP. So these are now Continental numbers. Continental kept all of Goodyear's part numbers the same. They have both of them on Rockauto. If anyone else needs part numbers for their older cars, let me know. That is, if they have the stock engines and such.
Sorry-This is for the 1949. As was posted before the 1950 uses the narrow 13515 for the Gen &WP and 13435 for the Fan & WP.
Most of the big bearing houses, Purvis Bearing here, carry a lot of belts by size or x- reference. Sent from my LG-TP450 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
