I bought a set of rims/tires for the '54 but the rub in the front. The car is lowered in the front (previous owner cut the coils). WHen turning the front's rub.... The tires are 215/75/15 on 6" rims.... What are you guys running?
Mine has a 2" drop out front. I'm running the stock 5" wheels with 185/80/15s and a 7" wheel in the back with 235/70/15s.
the bottom of the front bumper is 8" off the ground, & the bottom of the center of the wheel well is 21 1/2" to the ground
I dunno... you shouldn't have clearance issues. These are obviously not factory rims- what are they? have any pics?
My 54 is layed out on 185/80/14 all around and can steer lock to lock at full dump with plenty of room to spare.
The problem is most likely where the section width(sidewall) occurs in relation to the fender lip. The wheel like Blockhead mentioned using is a 5", may fix your problem. You can go to tire rack and look up your tire by size. If you go to the site nd look up tires by size and enter your info and pick a tire and look under specs,it will give you that info to give you a baseline. A 215/75/15 is 27.7 inches tall and has an 8.5 section width. A 205/70/15 is 26.5 inches tall with a 8.2 section width, seeing there's not much difference in the section width. That's what makes me think its the 6'' wheel bringing everything to outside as much as 3/4" more than the 5". Hope this helps.
Mine is 21-3/4" from the center of the wheel well to the ground. Running 205/70-15 on the stock rim. No rubbing that I can think of, but I normally don't turn it to full lock; no power steering. Here's a pic of mine.
