Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and currently own a 1948 Ford F1 and a 1960 Mercedes 180 Diesel. My avaitar is a 1946 Ford Woodie that I restored over a 10 year period but have sold, and wished I didn't. How many of us can say that? Other cars that I've owned have been 1929, 1930, 1931, and 1932 Fords. The 32 was a 3 window coupe, which is another cars I wih I still had. I have a question that maybe someone can answer. I just put a 3 inch dropped axel in my 48 F1. The truck has the original 16inch rims and tires on the truck and I cannot put the front fenders on. I'm thinking that I need smaller tires/rims. What do you guys think?
Hi and Welcme to the HAMB, You might be able to get away with later Ford Trcuk rims. All Ford truck rims are the same bolt pattern up to about 198o something so 15" rims with a 215/70 tire might do the trick. Where did you get the drop axle from and what did you think of the quality? My 49 Merc 1/2 ton needs a little more attitude.... I yanked out about 5 leaves as well as went down to a 215/15 tire which dropped her about 3" but it looks like I still have room for another 3" which is why I ask about your drop axle... moe Goodluck with your project
I got my dropped axel from Speedway in NB. The quality is good, however, one problem that I'm having is the steering arm is now hitting the shock so I'll have to replace them with a narrower profile ones. The other problem is I ordered 2inch tie rod ends and they are on back order until May 1. Here's the link to their page. http://www.speedwaymotors.com/1948-60-Ford-Pickup-Dropped-Axles,37560.html Thanks for the tip on tire size.
Welcome from Renton/Seattle. I've lived here in WA since 1965 and never heard of Nine Mile Falls, is that just past Eight Mile Falls? good luck with your projects. Be careful with smaller tires on a dropped axle. You might turn the axle into a plow.
