The issue with the headers is the steering box goes through the hood, and does not have a lot of room to move from where it is, the headers that were in there were right on the steering box and eventually would have poked a hole in them these are offset in the proper ammount to clear the steering box. maybye I will change them later but for now I wanna get this car back on the road.

Ok Been a few weeks since the last update, we have the carbs off to Dicks Hotrods to get rebuilt and all set up with linkage. Had to get a new engine the old one needed 5 grand to repair.

Keeping old engine if another owner wants to play with it. We went back to the axle that was on the car.

As you can see Clay and Forest have been very busy working on the floor and trans tunnel.

They are whipping it into shape :)

I dont much care for the steering wheel, wonder what I should use, kinda leaning on a 50's ford Wheel. Wish I had more pictures of the car in period.

Good call going with the original axle! The rod's looking like you guys will make quick work of getting her back on the road.

    Good Luck!

    BTW- HATE the headers!
Call Red's & get something that looks period, like a Blondel or something.

Here you can see how clay works on a channeled Roadster with no doors :)

What ever happened to the gearbox?
was it salvageable or did you have to get a new one?

Axle is graceful, with its trimmed wishbones/spring hangers. Steering arm is a work of art.
Pitman arm compliments all the rest, nicely shaped.

Glad you went with the original axle, it makes the rest of the bracketry really flow.
Consider using a '55 Ford steering wheel: it is not the 'deep-dish Lifesaver' type.
Too much steering wheel makes a channeled roadster look like a peddle car.

Thanks for the Steering wheel Idea. I wish I could find something thats like of race period correct, since it was a race car at one point. Maybye a 55 is correct. I wish I could find a Steering wheel like this one. But its probably not like what they would have used back then.

Or better yet what would be the correct Steering Wheel for a 1963 Show car, as that is the configuration that the car is in now. First year of metal flake.

Electrical is all done now, and the car is off to the Muffler shop for a new exhaust system.

Intersting Full floating fenders like mine, intersting steering wheel, wonder if those wires were the ones on your car in 52, I was seeing a lot of Wire wheels when I was looking at old GNRS photos recently.

  22. WOW! Everything I have ever read about the Bud Crackborn T regarding its fate is that it was destroyed by fire or wrecked in an accident, obviously fabricated stories to deflect people from searching for its whereabouts. So cool to see it has actually survived & is to be restored.

    A photo from around 1952.

Got the Carbs setup back from Dicks Hotrods, that guy is fantastic whiz with the carb setups, and a really nice guy.

Interior is done and Tonneau cover is done. Just need to find the pics.
Its all coming together a few more tweaks and it should be ready to drive again.

    Carpet is all done

and I had the guy also make this Tonneau cover to fit the existing snaps that were on the car.

We have found 4 cars now that were all racing in the early 1950's what all had a similar De Soto Grill and aluminum hood that all look very much the same, Does anyone think they might have been made by the same guy ? Tom Cobb Roadster being a famous one that runs this grill.
