Can a front nose clip on a 1951 Ford shoebox fit on to a 1949?? Im getting a 49 for a parts car but the body looks to be in way better shape than my 51. But I like the 51 front clip more than the 49.. Thanks
Yes BUT you will have to drill new mounting holes for the different style hood hinges. I would get everything loosely bolted up. Then figure out where your hood needs to be. (51 hood is slightly longer.) Make it solid then fine tune the fenders. 6cyl front splash pans are slightly different than 8 cyl as well. (around the radiator recess) Could cause some grief when installing radiator. Lastly make sure you get the "Z" bracket that goes from the fenders to the body. (it's to pull the leading edge of the fender inline with the rocker panel)
With both bodies there side by side it shouldn't be too hard to figure out the differences. It won't be the first time that the "parts" car ended up being the project car and the former project ends up being the parts car either.
I got the front clip off the 51. What a pain in the rear.. The hardest part was finding the bolts in the undercoating. Now its time to pull the drivetrain.
I never knew that about different length hoods! Dammit I have a 49 hood on my '51 and the fender-hood gaps are horrible. bah. I can't win.
The motor will be out on sunday.. Ill post more pics.. Any good places to wrap a chain for the lift? Im pulling the motor and tranz together.. Thanks
I took my transmission out yesterday. What a HUGE pain in the ass! Note to self when reinstalling: drop steering linkage and/or trans cross member!!!
Use the '49 hinges and the hood brace and you will not have as much problems lining up the stuff. The hinges and brace are different not the hood length.
This body is a lot better than my 51. the only hole in the truck is the spare tire well. The floors look ok not great but fixable with out buy replacements. The rockers are the worst part. I am thinkin about cutting the two in half and puttin them back together..
Is the rear end the same size? I was thinking about cutting the 49 in half in the middle ish of the doors from side to side, and putting the front half of the 51 on. It sounds like a lot of work but it should go pretty quick if its the same size..
i notice that the guy across the street has what looks like a Dodge 880 in his driveway.... you live in a great neighborhood, and that's NOT me being sarcastic. IMHO i'd leave off cutting either car in half... might end up with two projects stalled if things go tits-up.
The main body shell is the same '49-'51. Mix-n-match, collect 'em all, trade with your friends Keep the pics coming.
