    I've been wondering lately.

I like all those old cop cars with the 2-tone paint, the searchlights etc - but i've never actually seen any that have been made into a custom and still kept their police makeup.

I guess if there are any out there, this is the place to find them. I'd really like to see lowered, shaved, jumped-up. but all in keeping with the cop origins of the car.

Has anyone ever done this ? Couldn't find any on the interweb.

    Cheers
    Herm

Probably because in most states, it's illegal to have a car that resembles a police car. However, a lot of agencies have reproduced early police cars as promotional tools at car shows. Recently, Burbank P.D. has a '49 Ford police car on display. I've never seen a custom one though. LAPD has a race car that they take to the track. A program called "Race a Cop".

We have a race a cop program in Alabama. First there is a Yee Hawww. Followed by a fast ride down a dirt road with the lights off.

Wasn't thinking about a theme car, rather taking an original car and preserving it's roots.

Would throwing up in the back of one be considered modifying it ?
If so, then I did ?

The first thing you would to to make a custom, is to get rid of all that crap

That is by far the best modification I have ever seen done to a cop car. An object of art. :)

They had one on Cajun Pawn Stars this past year. I seem to recall it was a early 50s Chevy? Someone will be along to straighten me out .

Hey Frank. How about a photo of your 37 ?
He has a period siren on top, white star with a logo on the doors, a red light, and last but not least a box of donuts ready for use !

No kidding, and they can be total douchebags about it, too. There was a local guy about 10 years ago, just South of Indy, used to go to the cruise-in in a 4 door 64 Galaxie. Black and white, gumball machine on top, with a gold "Mayberry Sheriff" star on the door. He got pulled over, arrested and impounded for "impersonating an officer."

There are quite a few corvettes that look like police cars in the D.A.R.E. Program

Yes, I modified a police car but it was an OT model. I took a 71' Police Intercepter and made it look like a 57' F100 shortbed!

  28. The ride is not bad but when they tell you to drop your pants, squat and coff reality sets in.
