Projects Im waffling back n forth... Give your opinion.

I just sold my bagged 64 C10. And looking for its replacement. Here are two options. Give your opinion. I can take it. I've got big shoulders...

1960 F100 shortbed fleetside big back window
292 3spd on floor
Desert truck. 99% solid
Has new flip kit and notch in rear.
Has new Sids 3" drop axle, main leaf eyes reversed and a leaf removed.
New kingpins etc.
NEEDS:
Brakes done
Some wiring
Matching tires for back, rear wheels included with truck.

Next is...

1963 Chevy C10 shortbed fleetside big back window
327 saginaw car 4spd
Stock suspension
80% solid, typical rust at fender bottoms, door corners bubbling.
Has some scrapes down side.
Needs:
Carb installed and motor tuned{been sitting for 4yrs}
Needs hood installed, bed floor.
Lowered a lot or bagged

Both will be same investment to get to what I consider finished. Which is get in and go down highway.
The ford is ok static dropped but the chevy HAS to be bagged for me to like it.

And, whichever I buy, has to be done in 4 weeks to drive 190 miles to GGs in Columbus

The floor on those old chevys will rot away pretty much completely, the rust might be a lot worse than you think it is.

 

I like the ford pictured, for some reason im developing a taste for that body style!

 

I vote F100 too.

 

Ford... Squirrel is right about the Chevys and rust.. what looks like a little can be more once you pull it apart.

I'd chose niether. But the picture of the Ford looks better. So I'd chose the Ford. Seems to be a quicker fix too.
Maybe I was closing my eyes too tight when I imagined the Chevy!

 

If both are the same invesment to get going. I would go with the c/10. It will always be worth more than unibody f/100...

 

You had a Chevy,go for the Ford.
Its always fun to try something new and the Ford looks cool.
Brakes an wiring is easy fix too.

Well I have owned more C-10s than I care to disclose and normally I would tell you tht the C-10 is your best bet. But in this instance I am going to have to say that the Ford is you better choice.

I like small block Chevies but I like Y block Fords equally. Both are or can be dependable engines. The Ford needs nothing more than paint to be sharp on the outside as far as I can tell from the pic.

gotta say shortbox Ford.
Way less work to miles of smiles!

I love the C10's but I would have to say F100 on this one. Sounds like a better deal.

 

You could shop around for a nicer chevy too, but it would probably cost more

 

After all the Chevys you have owned I'm surprised you are looking at a Ford.

 

After looking much closer, the wagon we wanted was too rough underneath. I even had my wife looking under it to prove it to her...lol

As for the trucks..
The C10 is the safe choice, only because I've had so many 60-66 C10s and 2 suburbans, that my 16yr old can damn near build one himself...lol

The ford is cool, and way solid, but I know zero about them, or Yblocks.

I can swap a 3.08 rear in the C10, bag it with small notch, and have it rolling in literally a couple weeks. We've had so many its second nature.

so do I want a bagged C10 with 327 4spd and 3.08s or a static dropped straight axle 292 3spd and 3.90s F100....?

It's a no-brainer.You've had a '60-'66 C-10, (along with me, and every one elses brother. Kind of a good example of, "If it were easy, everyone would build one") Step up to the plate, and knock that Effy outa' the park. It looks damn good already.

 

Why did you sell your bagged C-10 in the first place? Why would you want another one? If the thought of owning something you know little about scares you, look at all the help you have here on the HAMB. Broaden your horizon. The "WOW Factor" is in the Effy with a Y- block, not another (yawn) SBC in an any year C-10. Plus, air bags aren't too traditional.

 

while i would normally go with the c-10; im really diggin that ford

 

A vehicle sitting without a hood on it (outside?) for 4 years might/probably need a new engine.
Go with the Desert no-rust(?) Ford if that's the case.

I have a '58 apache if you want a different chevy to play with. I'm not much on fords unless its a 30/31. I don't know why you sold your c-10 either. I see your problem but do not understand the whole situation. Good luck with your decision.

 

I sold the 64 C10 because ..well..my wife saw a wagon she liked a lot. And me being the good hubby of nearly 23yrs said...Sure!
But my mistake was not getting under said wagon the first time we saw it.
**Note to self- Don't look at old cars you wanna buy while on way to a nice dinner.
