Well, even with security Atlantic City is a a shit hole and I dont think I could sleep knowing my car was sitting in some field... guess we will see!!

  2. This.

We booked a room at the Days Inn out on Blackhorse Pike. So I'll have to trailer the car there, unload it, leave the trailer, drive it to the field, have the wife follow me in the truck (hence leaving the trailer at the motel), park the car at the show, park the truck, and hope my trailer doesn't get stolen while being left at the motel lot not hooked up to anything. I could only afford one night's stay, so if they want us to leave the cars until the end of the show on Sunday, I'll be loading up the car in the dark, and maybe being on the road between 11pm - 12am Sunday night. And that's if the show ends at 10 as scheduled, which isn't likely knowing Metallica plays a shitpile of encores, usually.
I want to be a part of this, but they really need to make this easier on the guys participating.

There are a lot of reasons the cars can't move in and out of the show...... believe me, I thought leaving them overnight was a bad idea from a car owners point of view. but there will be a lot of people at this show and the promoters, for insurance reasons, just couldn't allow cars to be moving..... ok then, so what can the show do for a car owner to make him feel at ease?, well for one, the carshow area is actually off the path of the stages, so when the show's over, the main crush of people exiting won't be going our way.... secondly, we have a team of six dedicated security guards just for our carshow area, their job is to keep an eye on the cars overnight...... third, we got them to commit to leaving the showlights on overnight for our area. So I'm put pretty much at ease on this..... if you don't wanna leave your car overnight, I understand. It would suck as far as a showcar being your only means of transportation, trailers are always a hassle. I don't think I'd leave anything unattended in a New Jersey parking lot...... If ya don't wanna do it, I understand......I haven't actually walked the grounds and have only been to Atlantic City once in my life, but I am assured that the boardwalk is at the most a 20 minute walk away from the main stage..... I'm gonna be walking back and forth myself and I'm not gonna have a car in the show this year..... If ya don't wanna walk, I understand......
This is the first event of it's kind, the inaugural year, and I am absolutely positive that there will be some snafu's along the way. But we have a good staff and the promoters, not to mention James and the rest of the band's desire for this show to come off well....... Gambino is gonna be chopping a top on site, and there will be a lounge area with a good showing of hotrod/tattoo related art for everyone to enjoy as well.... If you see myself or Rick Dore walking around and have questions, let us know, we'll be there foor the duration of the shows and would be glad to help any way we can..... We know it takes a leap of faith to be in on something like this, and don't think for a minute it's not appreciated....... I've seen some of the pre entries and I think we have a good field of cars that I'm looking forward to seeing. I mmight not even go see the concert, I'll feel more at home with the cars.........
as far as moveout, I am told that it can start exactly one hour after Metallica plays the last note on Sunday evening. which should be right around eleven. We are going to teardown on Monday morning so alot of people will be able to pickup cars then as well. hope this answers some questions but feel free to pm me if you have any more and I will do my best to get back with you..... thanks, Dennis

This will help, im not staying in AC and booked a room out near the Parkway.. So, I either need to take my 34 back to the hotel or leave it there and drive my truck and trailer back to the hotel.. or not go and lose my $200 on the room.. looking forward, hope it all works out! -E

Did you fill out an application?

  11. I did, but it's not like it's a binding contract.
I never expected to get picked in the first place, so when I did, I had to figure out how it was all going to work. As it turns out, it's just not going to work for me. I'm borrowing a truck and trailer, so if anything happened to either of those, I could never forgive myself. I could only afford one night at a motel, so having never trailers this car myself, loading it up in the dark in an enclosed trailer is probably not the best idea. I don't have much money, so putting the money out for gas, tolls, motel, food, etc. for the weekend is just putting us out too much, when there's other shit we need to do first. I appreciate being selected, and I appreciate all the planning and attention that has been given to this, but I just can't swing it.

Getting a room, food and gas would cost well over 600.00 bucks. If I could remove the car overnight I could have lowered the cost a lot. Sucks cause I wanted to be there.

Haven't you guys read your dry lakes history? It's traditional to sleep in your car.

My '60 Buick was accepted but I'm no longer able to get away that weekend.

Really disappointed that I can't be a part of something good that's happening on the East Coast.

I hope the event is a huge success and a good time for everyone involved.

  16. I'd do it. The wife, not so much. :D

Well, Im still in since I booked a room... however, NOBODY is going to dictate when I can take my car.. see how it goes.. I hope this really kicks ass but I may be kicking myself in the ass after its over... The part that really gets me nervous is that Orion clearly states that they are not responsible for any damage and warn that large crowds can get out of control but then they want to hold my car over night?? If I had a custom with glass and locking doors I wouldnt care as much but I worked hard on my 34 and now more then ever I wouldnt want to risk it... Well, I will be there.. take it as it goes!

I was planning on going, but without being able to use my car as transportation to the event as well to an affordable hotel during the event kind of wipes it out. The difference between 20 mpg and 10 mpg for 500 miles each way is a killer. Oh well. That money goes back into the HAMB Drags fund.

The whole not being able to leave till at least 11pm Sunday has me second guessing going.. I have no problem getting there Friday (I have an indoor spot), keeping the car there all weekend, but I have to be home no later than 3pm Sunday because my wife and I have to pick up the kids from their grandparents house....

I spent the day at the site with the promoters ...... If you have to leave before 11 sunday night you won't be able to do the show...... hope you can participate..... I tell ya, there is a lot of planning going on and everyone is gonna work very hard to make car owners comfortable. lookin forward to seeing that shoebox!

Wow. Work is going to be brutal on Monday morning. I gotta be honest, between the exorbitant cost of lodging, the inability to use the car as transportation to and from the show at night, and not being able to leave until practically midnight before a weekday all add up to make this sound really not worth it. I'm going to go because I committed to it, but this might be a lot more trouble than it's worth. I'd like to just enjoy the show, music, and friends without having to worry about how it's going to ruin my week.

The not being able to leave until 11 pm on Sunday may be the last straw on this one. I'm 2 1/2 hours from home in AC, if they don't start moving cars out until 11, and I get jammed up leaving at midnight or later, that means I don't get home until 3 am. I need to be in court at 9 am Monday morning. Sucks bad.

When we did the Detroit Autorama, we were out like clockwork at 6 pm. For this, I'm going to need to sleep on it and make a decision.

I'm still in. My car is insured, not going to stress over my pile of sheet metal.just going to enjoy the show/life experience,we only get one run through life I want to take it all in especially if its free. Well nothing's really free is it? Gas and travel expenses I guess. I'll have a spare car if I can help anyone with a lift back to your hotel or what not.

The word that scares me is, "Promoters".. I was in the music biz for a minute in the 90's as an artist and basicaly the promoters only look at $$ and that's the bottom line.. I'm not out yet but its not looking good.. Plus it looks like rain showers all weekend ... Being a fan since the 80's plus all of the other bands, I'm still debating.... We shall see...

Wow, this is definately changing the desirablity of being there! Most of us DO have to work on Monday, and AC is pretty far from home. I have to be up at 4 AM to get to work on time. If it lets out late, I'll never make it.
And trying to get a vacation day, or getting another night in a hotel at $300 a pop isn't very easy.

Combination of not being able to use my car as transportation, or even driving it there, cost of hotels and needing another night since I couldn't leave Sunday evening to come back. 8 hour + drive. I'm out.
