Just tell them that if Wichita Falls. They just started water restrictions this morning. You can water your lawn once a week and no car washing.

If you think the gas deal is bad, just wait til everyone realizes there isn't enough water to go around. If you check, it's already here in a lot of places.

  3. That is insane! Like other's posted, what is the difference between your drain and the one at the car wash?

Heard about a guy that got pulled over with a clean car...cop asked for a car wash receipt, based on the guy's address...
    (Bay Area, Santa Clara)
Cop confessed he hated cars like the guy was driving: it was a 440 Dodge Charger.

Use a biodegradable soap that is safe for the environment and then state your case :)

I find it interesting when people say, why don't you just move then?.....

I have been in my home for 20+ years. There is more of my blood spilled on it from sweat-equity, than the blood spilled from the occasional knuckle buster working on my car. Plus, in this real-estate environment the chance of selling my house at a fair price is zero! Not to mention, the mountain of stuff I have accumulated, and my kids schooling, friends and their piece of mind. Certainly I, and many others like myself have invested heavily into their community!

Running away is not the answer! It is just going to follow you anyway....

I don't mean to hijack this post by any means...but this is no longer the country I grew up in!

Must be a guy that owns all the car washes on the city council. Used to not be legal to run the rain water from your basement sump pump into the sewer line. Jeees, you run a hose out to the street & the rain water runs to the nearest street drain. Took them awhile to figure that out. chaddilac makes a good point also.

well, without reading all the prior statements, I'll add this:
Most all laws are the result of shitheads in our society.
There wouldn't need to be a law against murder if nobody would go around killing people.
The water thing sounds weird. In our city, next to Pasadena, CA., we are encouraged to turn the hose off when not using it to wash our cars, but thats all. Use the water when your using it, but get a nozzle that shuts it off when you are doing the soaping.
But asshats ruin everything for everybody. The Los Angeles concrete river basin, every day has to be cleaned out. Shitheads thrown stoves, transmissions, furniture, etc. in there daily and we have to pay to have it removed every day or it end up on the beaches.
I was the mayor here for several years a decade ago and the one reason why I got involved was...assholes. One day I found one mark of graffiti on a wall, some skateboard manufacturer name. BULLSHIT! Nobody fucks with MY town. It's not some shithead's wall, it a wall owned by some business guy.
You want to graffiti something, go graffiti your dad's new car and see how that turns out.
So, that's why I got into the mix of things locally....shitheads.

I don't know what the reasoning is in your town, but why don't you find out why using biodegradable soaps are an issue, or have you. (I didn't read all of this, sorry).
Or wash it one the front lawn so it soaks in.

But, again, it's the jerks that abuse everything that are usually the cause for goofy laws that wreck it for everyone.

And......don't go nuts here, but here's some sound advise, and you might not like it:
Get involved. Why post your local problems on a hot rod website? Think that will do you any good? You want comfort, go back to bed.
Sympathy and other guys bitching will not solve any of your problems with this. What? You going to go to city hall and tell them "the guys on the HAMB are really pissed?"

Now, don't get me wrong. This crap stinks and after a good old fashioned "group gripe" here on the HAMB, get on your steel undies on and get involved....BUT....BE COOL.
As mayor, here I remember every time a hot head got up to speak and once they started to get rude and off-topic, they would just become irritating. Sure, I'd listen and sure, their words mattered, but, I'm only human and after getting abused verbally, you do tend to "shut down" a bit. Usually, I'd give them a phone call the next day and get them over for coffee, one on one, so we could cut the drama for the TV cameras.

So.......get involved....be cool and polite and always be prepared with questions and listen. Never be the raise the level of speech to be anything but a civil conversation.
You will ALWAYS get much better treatment, more information and have a better chance at success if you are really a gentleman.

    Carry on and good luck...

Mazooza, as always you make good points. Posting this on the HAMB really serves no purpose other to let me rant somewhere yesterday when I was still pissed, as far as I'm concerned this thread can close or just die.
FWIW I do plan on fighting this. Problem is these rules aren't made by elected officials but city employee's so it's not easy. The more rules they make and enforce it's concidered "doing the job I'm paid for" weather the rule makes any logical sense or not. We have the same issues here with zoning regs and fire dept regs.

  17. Hire an attorney go to court. It will cost you up front but you will save in the end.

Sorry you got popped. Maybe put up a fence and wash behind it in the grass or on some gravel.

I cant wait until all these municipalities are fuckin flat broke, and wonder why.

also cant wait until they are too broke to enforce their own stupid ass rules..
even better would be to see the dumb ass rule makers in the unemployment line..yup just keep making laws and rules..lol..stupid fuckers

Oh, dont stand on your front porch too long....you know they have a rule about that, right?

I admire you for giving it a good fight.
In California there can not be a law, code or anything that a fine can be levied without the vote, action or such without the oversight f elected policymakers. The city hall staff just can't whip up codes and fines, ever.
Check about New Mexico and your town, but I'll bet it's the same.
All local elected officials are usually responsible for fines and enforcement regulations.
Again...check first, but some flunky at shitty hall usually can't just make p stuff to enforce.
Now......water is tricky. Sometimes County of State regulations rule over what a City can do or not do.
If you are using biodegradable soaps, then this shouldn't be an issue. Most all soaps today are biodegradable.

Sorry, again, I didn't read everything, but is the code due to soaps, or due to dirt from the car going into the gutter or is it a lack of water for the community that is the main reason for this code?
All have different results for you to focus on.

Also....two things you need to find out:

    1. Where does the waste water go? To a treatment plant? Does it percolate into the soil?.....where does it end up?
    2. Where does your water come from in the first place? Ground wells, no doubt in New Mexico? If you are getting your "tap" water from undergound wells, which we do in my town ( we are one of the few L.A. County citites that are self-reliant and not hooked up to the main water system that feed all of LA County).
So, if you are using well water for the town, ask if this is the reason for the water code.

It is really caused by the contaminants in the water percolating into the ground water that is behind this code? So, not the use of biodegradable soaps, but the dirt coming off of the car that I would suspect being the root of the code.
Ask..."how low is the ground water table at this time?"
If they can't answer that, they don't know Jack.
Maybe a quick note to the mayor or even a request for a quick "sit down" with him/her before a scheduled council meeting would provide answers.
I always encouraged people to ask me first ANYTHING before they lost sleep of an issue.

Go in armed with facts and good detailed questions.
I encourage you to start with city hall and to take notes. Be very nice.
Then take you notes and findings and ask the mayor for his "take" on the code.......but do not tell him first what you have been told from the city staff.
I almost assure you that the two versions will differ with their "facts".
If the mayor and the staff have different "takes" on the code, you have one of the two as goofballs and someone is dead wrong....

Find out if anyone has the facts that match up...........

ALSO...most importantly....request a copy of THE CODE....it may be "online" in your city's website.
    Check there first...print it out.

Hell, I'd love for you to post the code here on the HAMB...word for word exactly as it is.....

  21. New Mexico has been infested with liberals too! That is the stupidest god- damned law ever. Think about it when it rains the water runs down the street thru all kinds of shit in the gutters, runs off land and it's contaminates, etc. We better get a hold on these wackos before we
are all wearing helmets, knee pads etc. to the mailbox. Restricting car washing, lawn watering, if we were really running outa water, is some what understandable until you think about all the projects, hud houses, apartments , businesses with faucets and toilets dripping or running day and night. If we'd quit allowing every body and his brother into this country most of whom breed like rabbits we wouldn't have a water shortage!! Until common sense and not higher liberal, socialist higher education has the reins, we're doomed. It does usually take a vote for laws, etc so the problem isn't just officials , it's the Cali. citizens ( like Mazooma1)also contributing to the bankruptcies and financial nightmare in Cal with their liberal, better, smarter than any one else thinking. Quit passing laws and educate children like before the "sixties"

That's a great law because eventually your dirty water will get to me via the Rio Grande!!!

  23. In Missouri no one can fine you except the judge. When the codes nazis say that they are going to fine me I say, "Well then lets go to court and get it settled." I am not always that polite and have been called an ass before. I am not suggesting to not be polite to the codes enforcer what works for me may not work for you. Then I do remind them of appeals and such.

I think that the whole green thing may be harder to fight but if you spend the extra cash for environmentaly friendly detergent you may squeak by in court.

Here is a funny story. My neighbor bless his heart is the world's worse about cutting the grass. He always lets it get hip high unless someone is trying to sell a house in which case he keeps it mowed until the house is sold. Anyway that is not the story just back ground.

A couple of years ago he let his grass go real bad like cut and bail it bad. What the city does is sends a crew out to cut it along with any flowers etc that may also be there then charges you from 200-500 dollars for services rendered, added to your water bill. So I go out on the deck and see that the city crew is cutting across my back yard to get to his.

I walked out to where they were and told them they could not cross my yard with there equipment. Just because I could. Then I called him at work and asked him if someone was supposed to be in his yard cutting his grass. He said no and would I call the police and that he was on his way home.

So I called the police and told them that someone was running equipment in my neighbors yard without his permission and would they send someone out to stop them until he could get there to get things sorted out. Sure enough a cop shows up and tells them crew to stop. He shows up and files a trespass order against them. The crew boss said that he couldn't get his equipment out because I told them they could not go across my property with there equipment. I said that it would be OK this one time, then filed a second tresspass order against them for comming events.

So they have to go to court to get the order lifted, which the judge denied. But before they ever got to court we got together and mowed his yard.

Has absolutely no bearing on this situation but it was pretty funny.

This is my first post on the Hamb, but felt compelled to add to this topic.

What is freedom? Riding around without a seatbelt, riding a motorbike without a helmet, perhaps talking on a cell phone while you are driving or washing your own car in front of your own house. Which of these things can you NOT do in China?

Where is America headed that the Chinese can experience more simple freedoms than we do, a country that prides itself on its' Freedoms?

  26. Oily film floats on water. So parking your car in your driveway in the rain should be illegal.

  27. You may want to be careful about getting too political, I know that you have a basic right to your own opinion but if you begin to sound too political it will cause you a problem.

    Not a dig just advice.

There are neighborhoods around here that it is not an accepted practice to park you car in your driveway.

Indy dumps thousands of gallons of raw sewage in the white river every week, instead of building a sewage plant capable of taking care of it. First I heard about it was on the news, then I thought people boat and fish in that river also.....

Everytime I think I am sick of leaving in the middle of nowhere one of these posts pop-up. No one has ever said a thing about all the crazy stuff that goes on at my place. Wanna shoot off 100's of high powered rifle rounds? No problem! Want to paint an old trailer outside? Knock your socks off. Need to get rid of some old lumber and such? Burn it.
It is a pain driving 10 miles each way to get a bolt or part but at lease no one ever shows up and trys to tell me what I can do and what I can't do! (I already have a wife for that!)

First of all if you think the people in China are enjoying "freedom", you are dead wrong. They come up "missing" when they step on the wrong toes.
And, you don't have the "right" to think that your "important" call on your cellphone is more important than paying attention to your driving and killing my wife when you smash into her.

Now, get off the soap box and get into this discussion as it pertains to this issue and you will be welcome here.
