So I've been thinking with all this hot weather outside, has anyone stole an A/C unit from a different vehicle and adapted to their hot rod? Saw a tech tip once where a guy used an a/c unit from the back passenger area of a van and adapted it to his rod. Post pics, techs and info if you got it.

Put this in my '54 Ford for a "retro" look, it is from a 1965 Mustang since I have swapped to a 5.0 & AOD I was able to use the early Mustang brackets and compressor, condenser and receiver dryer.Another thing that may interest some of you is a 66-67 Mustang radiator is a bolt in for 1949-56 Fords so you can also use the matching fan shroud.

I have used one from Datsun B210's in a 37 Chevy pickup before. They were like a dash hanger unit with a cap over the front to install vent hoses. It went under the dash nicely.

Iu used to work in a auto acc. shop in the early 80's back when a/c wasnt standard

there were several companys that made after market a/c units that would fit under or in the dash

that ford unit there was the only way you got air in the early 60's fords
and i remember adapting several of those for friends

if you get one from salvage yard and the system has been open fro a long time flush the coil with denatured acholol and be sure to evac it for a while same goes for a used condensor under the hood use a new reciever dryer fro 134a

Swamp coolers are period correct and worked well in dry climate areas.

Not hot rod related, but a friend of mine recently used a Mazda 323 compressor to put AC in a VW notch back. Reason I bring it up is that the comprssor is REALLY small, but you'll probably need to machine a different pulley for it.
