IS IT A STANDARD OR AUTO ? THE CLUTCH IN THOSE OLD ONES ARE 8" I BELIEVE & ARE HARD TO FIND . BOUGHT A '62 S-22 FOR $150.00. (bad clutch) sold for a grand.
for me I rather it be a standard so if I was to do a engine/trans swap I would have the linkage, I'm not big on autos
62 was the first year it was a "Mercury Comet" On my sons 62 we swapped out the 144 fro a 170 out of a 67 Falcon. Believe it or not it like was night and day. We wanted a 200 but got the low milage 170 for free so it was a no brainer. Bolted right up to the 2spd Merc-O-Matic. Todd
how was the body? Will it drive? I have a feeling he will call you back in a week or two, its been up for a while. Unless he's one of those dicks who will sit on it forever.
Not trying to start trouble but, how does refusing a low ball offer & holding out for a fair asking price or more reasonable offer make him a dick??
well it wasnt a low ball offer, its market value for this particular car in its current condition, he has had a few offers under my $1600, my $1600 offer, and a ebay listing that stopped at $1526.15 on ebay, he should have an idea of the market value for his car at this point. He is just asking too much and not listing an actually asking price on craigslist is a little aggravating, a few users here have also been following this listing and its been up for sale for a while (which should tell him something), My offer was fair and strong and maybe he could have squeezed a few hundred more out of me in the process of negotiating, I do believe he will realize he had someone on the hook and let them get away, if he calls me back I sure as hell will not give him the few extra hundred
Around here in Maine if it was solid with no rust thru even if it wasn't running top notch...about 3,000.00 or less. I had a 63, loved it great car.
Johnny, do you know if it has a 144 or 170? Either one could have come factory in 61. The 144 is 85hp and 170 is 101hp. Identical blocks but the position of the starter may be different on the 170, not sure. I know the 144-200 blocks are visually nearly identical, I know there was a high mount and low mount position of the starter but not sure which years/blocks/or with which transmission. By the way, check out this old article I found in one of my old Hot Rod magazines (1961)...
