Actually, only a two springer. The rear's are only half per side. :)

    Nice car.

    Thank you

More correctly they are only 1/4 per side (of a fully elliptical spring).

Therefore all the cars pictured are by your definition, two springers utilizing two 1/2 ellipticals per side.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought of the 3 spring Fords that were on the streets when I was growing up in the 50s. At that time the Fords on the streets had the front transverse spring and had a modern rear axle with parallel springs. This gave a distinctive bounce to the cars going down the road. It was always easy to identify a 3 spring Ford by the way it rode and when I put a modern axle under the rear of my 47 Mercury, I had the worlds biggest grin because it rode just right.

Thanks for all of this. I brought home a '29 Chevy chassis yesterday and am deciding if it will have 3 or 4 springs. I'm leaning toward 3. 4 looks a bit long in the back. The body is a '26 Chevy roadster. I'm using a '47 Chevy pick up front axle and brakes a built 153 Chevy 4 cyl, Saganaw 4 speed, and a dana 44. 19" Chevy wire wheels. That is unless my '28 Chevy 4 sneaks in. It is tempting but I want something a little more streetable and I've put a lot into the 153.

  16. Put the 153 in for now and have some fun- you can always build the 171 later :)

Exactly what I was thinking. I can build it with both engines in mind.

I wondered how good parallel springs on front would look, nice they are.

It was a shell I found in a buddy's junk pile, I think maybe Dodge.
I saw it & thought "hey I can cut this up & make it look just like the one in the Frontenac catalog" :>)

    Charles

Check out the Louie Meyer 1933 Indy winner. It was a Miller with that type of suspension.
Years ago I had that car in my shop & got to work on it.
It had a really cool deal on the upper spring mount for the front axle.
The spring mounted on a bed that would move for & aft with an adjustor screw, so you could dial in the caster !!!
