Congrats on the T-shirt! Sounds like a good weekend!

  15. I thought of that and tried to get the camera low and to the left, you can see the tach when the shift light comes on but if I move it too low or over too far you can't see the course and that's the fun part. :D

I've read and been told (Charlie Burns ran the "Brick" with only the back 2/3 of the bed covered) that this is the best way to go, breaks up the "burbble" behind the cab. It seems to be true, the course was much worse on the third run than the second and I gained 1 mph. I can only imagine that if I had uncovered it with a good solid lake bed to run on it might have made a couple more mph. June is coming up! ;)

  16. OK! The final and IMO best run for the Uni of May 2012.

Just read the entire thread. Nice work! Ever thought of making panels that would slide in behind the grille to block some of the air going into the engine compartment? Or maybe a little air dam underneath the bumper? Looks like you want to keep the body as stock as possible but these mods wouldn't be cutting it up or modding it drastically. Just my $.02

  22. Production class rules are VERY specific with what you can and can't do.

  23. This engine sounds a lot different than any prior...in the Brick or Jake.

Sure can hear the traction loss, but wow...sounds awesome!!!

It would be interesting to see what it would do on one of the paved courses.

  24. Thanks Trent! Always the PR man. ;)

This is something that has been on my mind too.

  25. Thank you for your $.02, advice is always noted here but as Tman has stated the rules are very clear on this and both those suggestions are out. Although someday I plan to take "Jake" into the world of MP (Modified Pickup) and those mods will be high on the to do list. ;) Thanks again for your interest.

Speaking of paved course, how about the Silver State Classic: www.sscc.us ? Did this with a friend a few years ago, but it's not all straight line racing, there are a few curves in the 90 mile course. It's a lot closer to you than any other paved course I know of.

Engine sounds great Tim! Thanks for posting the vids :)

If I remember correctly, Jake has a 5sp. It sounds like you are only making it to 4th gear. Is that because of the course length? And you make 5th at Bonneville?

Also, it sounds like you shut the engine down and coast to a stop. I am interested in knowing the thinking behind that rather than compression breaking.

    Thanks!
    Scott
