I think I already have my mind made up but want to hear some opinions

I also got a quote for the following:

    1) complete sandblast taking most things off except maybe doors (need to double check that)
    2) Primer sealer
    3) Base coat
    4) Clear

*** no body work just going to leave it rough - I like looking at a nice clean obviously gone over car/truck - but it is almost too nice - antiseptic & I do not want that for this truck.

The quote with them doing all the dis & re-assembly was $6K
this seems like a good price but I would like opinions on this too....
the guy has done work for me before - repair to a motorcycle gas tank and his work was excellent....

Just my opinion, but If I were spending $6k I wouldnt not be leaving it rough....then you have smooth paint and clear in all of the peaks and valleys of those dents....that screams half assed to me.

I hate to say it, but if you dont want to do body work, then shoot it in satin black like everyone else....at least the metal would be protected.

No bodywork? Then strip it,seal it ,then put it in primer.Any gloss will show every flaw on that truck. It needs rust repair and in my opinion you will be throwing away 6 grand.Nice truck by the way.

I agree with the other guys - if you're not going to take out the dents, leave it in primer.

  5. it could be worth it, but you have to price it out with all the body work being done, and get another quote to just sandblast and prime [not the best]. and compare the prices for what you get. those driver side fenders look like they need work.

Or should I save some more $ and do the body work
Rust work is done door bottoms & just a couple of other places the rust you see is surface....

I like it as is except the doors need to match. Love the patina 30 years in the making.

  8. I can guarantee you that once you have it sand blasted you'll see things that need to be fixed. Ther'es no way I'd spend 6K to paint over what's there, I'd get the body work done and finish the prep work and paint it base coat clear coat in your color choice. It's to nice a truck to skip any steps in the final phase. You'll be thanking all of us for talking you into it.

    Nice truck

As others have more or less stated, paint over dents is well...DUMB squared

I can't believe a reputable shop would accept the job under that condition.

  10. but want to hear some opinions
That's crazy to do it that way.
And that's FUCKING STUPID money to do that amount if work.

I say rub it down with some WD-40 and leave it as is.

  12. Either paint it and do it nice or leave it alone and just keep oiling it. Painting over a bad body job looks like schit

  13. CLR treatment and clear coat would look good too.

If you are not going to do it right, don't do it at all. You are going to regret it in the long run and you will be out 6 grand. A few years down the road or maybe the day after you pic it up, you are going to look at your painted dents and go, what the hell was I thinking!

That truck is killer...I would agree with most of the above. I would make it look smooth and shiney if you are spending that much. Flat black could be done in your driveway with cans.

Much cheaper ways to get that in flat black than paying someone else 6K. Good luck.

paint materials are expensive; don't waste money repainting dents. That truck could look like new with just a little work.

Sound like what I really need to do is have this person do
    1) blast
    2) body work
    3) epoxy primer

see if that is with in my budget for now
By the way what would be a good price??
Then I could come back and paint a straight primered truck later...
