$20 bills were ALL B/S stories. The REAL stories all used $100s. DD

I got into one of those 100 dollar bill deal's back in the late 70s.I was showing a car at a local show and next to me was a fellow with a real 427 Ford Cobra.I couldn't keep my eyes off that car all day. When the show was over the fellow offered me a ride,of course I said yes. After i buckled myself in he stuck a 100 dollar bill to the dash and said If you can get it through the first 2 gears it's yours. I couldn't reach the dam bill. From that day on I was impressed with ford cobra and yes this is a true story.

My favorite: my buddy had a xxx in high school and he never was beat. I think I was the only guy who used to lose when he raced . . . Either that or everyone knows that same guy

Ha, I bought that story hook line and sinker when I was 10 or 11 years old. took some living for me to let that one go.

  16. Yeah, same here but it was also a loooong time ago.

  17. I was in service in 1968 and we did not have that much to bet. But it would not have mattered with my buddy's 57 Chevy 150 sedan with a 409 425 horse engine in it. In first gear you could not get your back off the seat. First real hot rod I rode in.

I had a 65 Cuda with a Crane SSH 320 nc cam and a 4 speed. Torker and a 780 holley exhausting through fenderwell headers.

The rule was that you could not pull yourself towards the dash with your arms, hands etc.

That car would glue you to the seat back through 4 gears, no chance you could reach the dash , not a hope in hell.

It really isn't all that far fetched.

I'm calling BS, I've only been a 1.53 60' (mid 10-second car, short times stink) on slicks but the forces aren't that stout. Perhaps there are street-tired cars that will launch a lot harder than that but I've never seen any.

  22. Yeah, my buddy used to put a twenty on the dash and say "if you can beat it, you can eat it"...no wait, that isn't right.

I don't care what the vehicle may be...... a tight wad like me would have a sudden burst of super human strength and have that 20 in my pocket in the blink of an eye.

this thread reminds me of "uncle Buck" from Saturday Night live who put a 20 in his pants and had the girls search for it, then he played glass bottom boat on under the coffee table.

Buddy of mines street car ran low 1.40s on M/T DOTs. We were horsing around on the street, on the first hit, I'd heard a rattle coming from the back of the car, I thought it was something in the rear end, but I didn't hear it again. When we got back to his place, he couldn't find his house keys in his coat pocket. I remembered the ratlle I'd heard, Thought "naw, it COULDN"T be." Looked in the car. found them on the package shelf. Absolute truth.

And no, this DOES NOT mean I buy the old "$20 on the dash" BS.

I was going to post that I always heard the $100.00 bill story involved a 427 AC Cobra. Then I read your post. :D
