heard it on the radio -- the song.....
    "We drive by night.."
was that the title, or just a phrase in the song?
Anyone know what it was I heard on the radio ??

Rock? Country? Male or female vocalist?

    Was that line the chorus?

1985 does narrow it down, but are you sure of the lyric? can you add any more?

They Drive By Night was a pretty good Humphrey Bogart movie, early 40's I think. Not what you're looking for but was the first thing that popped in my head when I saw the thread title.

Been 25 years but I recall:
    rock
chorus line -- I think so
    a group

I've done a lot of googling without luck.... maybe it was a one hit wonder...

    Maybe it was this...
This was a song that got some radio play in 1985, on a crappy radio it might sound like "drive by night".

Almost makes me think of "This Ain't the Summer of Love" by Blue Oyster Cult.

I worked at Flint auto parts at Mill and University in '85, lived at Lemon and Terrace in Tempe Park Place, and picked women at Graffitti's on Mill... Sorry, nothing on the song though.

Now that you mentioned this, it's been driving me nuts all morning. I can remember the line your talking about, but I can't place it either. It would help to better catagorize it if I knew what station you listened to back then... Key 103 ? KSTM "the storm at 107? KUPD 98? Probably not KZZP unless a girlfriend was involved! I'm guessing KSTM. How about "I drove all night"? Dave Edmunds maybe?

    BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN ??
    "Drive All Night"

When I lost you honey sometimes I think I lost my guts too
And I wish God would send me a word send me something I'm afraid to lose
Lying in the heat of the night like prisoners all our lives
I get shivers down my spine and all I wanna do is hold you tight
I swear I'll drive all night just to buy you some shoes
And to taste your tender charms
And I just wanna sleep tonight again in your arms
Tonight there's fallen angels and they're waiting for us down in the street
Tonight there's calling strangers, hear them crying in defeat.
Let them go, let them go, let them go do their dances of the dead (let 'em go right ahead)
You just dry your eyes girl, and c'mon c'mon c'mon let's go to bed, baby, baby, baby
I swear I'll drive all night just to buy you some shoes
And to taste your tender charms
And I just wanna sleep tonight again in your arms
There's machines and there's fire waiting on the edge of town
They're out there for hire but baby they can't hurt us now
Cause you've got, you've got, you've got, you've got my love, you've got my love
Through the wind, through the rain, the snow, the wind, the rain
You've got, you've got my, my love heart and soul
