I've never cleared over chrome, I'm thinking it would dull the chrome. I used translucent violet over chrome and then cleared over that. looked great. I keep hopping they will come out with a clear that is "clear" or were you asking about powder coat chrome? no way, its more like polished aluminum:mad:

I dont think it could dull the chrome if the clear is of a good quality,

the only True "Clears" that exist are water borne or water based clears...

When you see a "colored chrome" these days you are generally looking at a spray on chrome. That is a proprietary base/clear with a silver nitrate sandwiched between for the reflectivity. The color comes from candy in the clear. My shop applies one of these systems. There is a lot of misinformation out there, so if I can help drop me a line. [email protected]

oh the paint(Sherwing W 2k urethane tinted clear) can take the heat alright! I tested before on a bike exaust(which can get a whole lot more heated)

wow... seems like this will never finish. Can I say I have seen cars with road miles with discolored wheels yet with good body paint jobs. Heck my 98 explorer has all its clear flaking off the wheels.

That stuff was sold in spray bombs back in the 60's...simply tinted lacquer in a can...was a short lived fad but it looks OK IMHO.

sadly here in Nicaragua we dont have translucent paint, so I have to make my own with just paint and clear, but some colors just wont turn translucent at all, so I have to use nail polish for some colors(Red, yellow, orange, gold)

my orange candy(nail polish mixed with mixing clear, then 2k urethane)
