I just wanted to share the latest finish option we have come up with here at Advanced Plating in Nashville, Tennessee. The moment we finished these, I thought of how cool they would look on a traditional hot rod. We are calling this new finish oil rubbed bronze. Give it a look and let us know what you think of it.

It is less expensive than chrome. On valve covers you are looking at right around $100 a valve cover depending on how beat up it is. Glad you like it.

So, how do you get the edges to show bronze? Is this done in the buffing?

Yeah, I could see that, but someone has to step out of their comfort zone every once in a while. It's not for everyone, but I think used right it could look killer.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback. :)

  12. I like it. I could see it used as accent pieces. Too much in too many places, just like chrome, can quickly become overkill.

I like it. Not for my current car, but planned into a ground up build, could be very cool.

Maybe planned with brown paint and interior leather. Kind of understated.

Is it a durable as chrome? For instance, would it hold up on bumpers?
I think it has potential and "will work" if tastefully used.

Yes, it would hold up on bumpers. It won't come off, start rusting, or anything of that nature. All and all it should wear about the same as chrome. I can tell you that it will wear better than most black nickel finishes. The best way to care for it is, wash it and wax it with a non abrasive wax. Hope this helps.

I like it, and think it would look especially on a hot rod where you wanted the car to look like it had been around for a while. There are a number of places it could be used, like a dash, engine parts, suspension, etc.

Knowing the quality of the work you guys do I think this will be a winner for you.

Yeah, I think it would fit especially well on an old build with patina much the way old chrome parts do. Headlights, grille shell, etc.

  24. Man that finish is beautiful, well done.

  25. Looks like fake Patina to me, or an old Antiquing kit. Not saying that's good or bad, just what it looks like.

  26. I like it. And as others have said it would look great on the right car and understated. I'm just glad that there are people out there experimenting and looking for alternates. And if it's cheaper than chrome then that's even better.

    Keep up the good work.

  27. I will throw in my two cents,..I think it looks brilliant - for the right build that would definitely add a dimension that chrome could not. Nice work!

Great to see suppliers trying different things!

Looks good and probably lots of applications. Nice job!

Do you guys polish old aluminum valve covers? If so, how much (rough estimate)?
