I don't think anything was done. It was a 40 truck cab and is/was currently for sale in the classifieds. Been an interesting topic though.

Just remember to lay both the front pillars and the back to FLOW! Don't slice the side windows quite as much as the top, let them sit a little higher into the top when you put it together.
The front windscreen don't need to be chopped as much either, give it around an inch less than the top gets, again let the 'screen sit a little higher into the roof. This gets rid of that HEAVY look chopped 40s get.
Dont chop the rear windows at all, let them lean to give the flow. Dont let the top of the rear windows sit higher than the side windows, this may take sitting the bottom down into the rear panel a little.
Keep as much of the full length of the rear side windows, let the top of them flow with the top and the rain gutter..........oh yeah, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LEAVE THE RAIN GUTTERS ON!!
The gutter equalizes the lines between the roof top line and the rear side windows.

    Doc.

I love cars of all types but the 40 ford coupe, done correctly with a slice out of the body also looks great... John McNally did two before he died.. much like the one in the pictures on this thread... Posies had a T-shirt years ago that had an ole country boy leaning on a chain saw and it said "If it ain't cut.... it ain't shit".... anybody can restore one. If you wanna cut it have at it :) I attached a couple of pictures of one done right... sorry to repeat but wanted to demonstrate what I meant by "right"...

I have a book on top chopping. In said publication there is a 40 coupe chopped by Sam Foose. (Chips dad) It has a few shots of the chop in progress, and it looks like something not for the faint of saw cut and weld! A very involved process to say the least. I think the book was an effort of Tex Smith. It is several years old, but may still be available?

This month's Street Rodder Mag has an article on chopping a '40 Coupe. They are chopping one of Dennis Carpenter's new steel repos. Brave souls!

Here you go. I found this article (forget what magazine ) many years ago,and saved it for future reference. When I decided to chop my 40 (12 years ago), this saved me a ton of time and a lot of figuring out where (and how much) to cut. Good luck.

In one of the recent Street Rodder or Rod and Custom mags there was a detailed article about how to chop a 40 coupe and make it look nice. Usually, chopped 40 coupes have a rear quarter window that just looks terrible. The one in the magazine really looked good.
    I was surprised.

If you follow the cuts in above diagram, the rear quarter window retains the stock shape, only smaller.

This one was choped in the early 60's and has not been seen in the past 50 years. We would like to find it or what happen to it.

Ron Walker chopped this coupe in the early 70s, it was his first chop ever. Ron and I were just talking about the car last night. I had ask him what it was like to chop a 40, he said its like chopping an egg lol Ron is in my car club the Greazy Hubcapz.
