Guys, any suggestions on what year S10 T5 would best work for a 348 in a 58 Chevy Pickup? I'd like to use the stock V8 bellhousing, clutch fork, flywheel and so on. Any suggestions would really help, is this close to being a bolt in swap?

Are there any drive shaft concerns and do I need to install a x-member at the rear of the T5?

I'm also installing a IFS so I don't have a clearance issue with the stock exhaust manifold that I discovered while doing a mock engine fit.

    Thanks Terry

I'd use a Camaro/Firebird WC T5 from a V8 and if I needed to move the shifter position, I'd put the S10 tailhousing & topcover on.

Thanks for the tip, I do think I would need move the shifter forward to the S10 location it would be in my seat. So I'd need to buy 2 trannys or hope to find parts to make this swap?

Just remember the S-10 T5 is a low torque transmission.

  5. I put one out of a 1999 s-10 in my 34 behind a 283 and used the 283 flywheel and the s-10 hy through out bearing and clutch and pressure plate. My t-5 has the bell housing made to the trans unless I missed some thing. I used the master cylinder for a 61 chevy truck and reversed the clutch and brake side. It is working fine. Good luck.

Im not an expert in anyway but I've seen 80's and 90's Camero and Firebird T5's were the bell housing is separate but I don't know if it will bolt to a 348. Anyone know?

I'd also like to use the 283 bell housing as this will give me a rear motor mount and is in perfect location on the truck for the 348.

Can anyone tell me if there is an adapter plate of a T5 to the stock 238 bell housing? It looks as if it doesn't have the same bolt pattern.

    Then you don't have a T5.

No adapter needed if it's a pre-93 T5. It bolts up if you have a 283 bellhousing. Now, the input shaft may need to be shortened, as well as the front bearing retainer where the T/O bearing rides. Additionally, depending on your clutch disk, you may even need to lengthen the splines on the input shaft.

If you have a '93/94 and newer T5, it uses the Ford bolt pattern and won't bolt up to a 283 bellhousing.

Thanks Ernie for the help, no I don't have a T5 currently and was thinking of using one do to the great shifter location for the pickup installation. The other thought was to use a T10 and install a top load shifter conversion.

  10. Look into a NV3500 from a V6 s10, Its a OD 5 speed. Its stronger than the s10 T5, and has a mid shifter.

Beware ! some integrated housing s-10 transmissions are light duty. and have the shifter more rearward. look for a 5 speed out of a C1500 full size. shifter will be in the right spot too. been there, done that
