George Lindsey's costar, Andy Griffith, spoke fondly of his friend.

"George Lindsey was my friend. I had great respect for his talent and his human spirit," Griffith recalled. "In recent years, we spoke often by telephone. Our last conversation was a few days ago...I am happy to say that as we found ourselves in our eighties, we were not afraid to say, 'I love you.' That was the last thing George and I had to say to each other: 'I love you.'"

  4. Goober would say "Hey Andy" everytime he would come in the court house.
He would also point his finger and Chk Chk at ya like to a horse, Remember?
You will be missed, a good man.

George" Goober"Lindsey, rode that wave in for the rest of his life! I think he even wrote a book about " growing up in Mayberry" or something like that., he was so funny on that show, they all were.
Wasn't he a regular on Hee haw also? I think as Goober on there also.

  10. It wasn't unusual to have Goober sightings here in the Huntsville area.

You may not know this, but Goober was a bit of a gearhead. One of my best friends grew up in Jasper and has shared many a story about Goober's cars, which included many old Fords and Chryslers. Goober kept a lot of his stuff in Jasper over the years, and once a few thieves broke into his garage and tried to make off with a very nice early '30s Chrysler roadster. The cops caught them just as they were cinching onto the truck. Since then, many of Goober's old parts were sold to my friend, and they remain in his garage attic. There were also some relocated to the old homeplace, but you know what happens when the family dumbass is asked to "clean up the property"...

RIP Goober. You were a class act!

He was from Jasper,AL, about 25 miles from me here. Gomer {Jim Nabors} is also from Al, from down in Sylacauga. Lots of actors from that time frame came from the south. I guess Mayberry is a lot like home for us!
