RIP Mr. Lindsey, you brought joy and humor to so many folks.

That's my favorite Andy Griffith Show in the pics. Goober must man the Sheriff's office while Andy's out of town. After a customer harangues him about a car problem, Goober does the only thing possible; He field-strips the Rambler and reassembles it inside the police station, finding the mechanical problem.

He was funnier than hell on that show. The episode where Opie tricks him into thinking he has a talking dog was my favorite. Godspeed

You can't break a Rambler down that far without a repo saw and an airchisel, it's a pretty strong unit body. Doubtful that car got welded back together.

    Goober and Gomer were cousins

  17. Damn, too many good folks have been leaving us lately. As a HUGE fan of the Andy Griffith Show, this one bums me out. Most of the cast is gone now, and finding the show on TV is getting harder these days.

Looks like Mayberry will be looking for another good mechanic. Rest in peace Goob...........E

  19. Good memories watching those shows. Only one thing, it must be a Bi-ch only being known as "Goober"

Yep. That style of hat was 1930's up, classic po' boy grease-monkey!

Lindsey (Goober) donated his original to a museum.
"Lindsey got the idea of wearing the hat on the show from working at his Aunt Ethel’s garage when he was a young man.

“To keep grease out of their hair, mechanics back then would wear caps like this. They would cut the crown out of a felt hat and then turn the edges up and then they would kind of scallop those. They cut holes in the top to let air in, because felt doesn’t breathe. He cut holes in the top of his hat himself. And there you have it, a cap fit for Goober Pyle.
    ”

Very sad news. :( We rarely know the whole person we see on the screen and it looks like he was one of those people. I googled him and found out he did a lot to raise money for charities and that he had a diverse acting career beyond Goober.

    RIP.
