Projects Shepard's Pie '34 Ford Pickup build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Rocket's Hot Rod Garage, Feb 25, 2012.

  1. I say using traditional high quality components is nothing to apologize for!;) Nice work.

  2. I thought I saw pictures of this finished in some event coverage from Yakima.....or am I crazy?

  3. Your not crazy. That was it at Yakima we've taken it to a few shows. I just thought I'd share the build with ya'll.

  4. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the build. I'm the guy that always looks threw the build book at shows. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't imagining something. The finished product looks awesome.

  5. I'm glad you liked it. It's been a labor of love. We're still workin out some small details. I'm actually glad someone noticed. Means your paying attention.

  8. After having the cab, box, door, hood and grill acid dipped by Metal Works in Eugene we could see what needed to be done. For the most part we had a good place to start, very little rust mostly just some old repairs to fix right.

  10. The fenders where probably the most work. We used an unsavable front fender for a donor & used parts of the wired edge to fix our fenders. Shrinking & stretch the edge to get the shape right etc. The one fender had a bit of a kink in the middle.

  11. Sorry It's been awhile. I bought a '34 truck from a local wrecking yard mostly for the fenders & grill to use on this build. I'll spare you the details but here are some before and after shots..

you say that so non-shelantly (sp) like everyone has a 34 pickup sitting in the local yard

  13. Haha. I guess your right we have a killer wrecking yard with quite a bit of old stuff in it about a 1 1/2 miles from the shop so I guess we're spoiled. It's like a giant playground for Hot Rodders.

I just move back to California from Pasco, Wa. What wrecking yard is 1.5 hours from Sunnyside?

  19. Going to be a really nice truck. I can't get over how rust free the thing is. Mine started out barely being held together with rust dust.

  20. More boring sheet metal. Promise the next post will be more eventfull.

  21. The interior of the pickup is way basic. Some extra gauges where added via the Hot Rod Company. We had to fix a few old repairs then decided to make a small gauge panel for the 2 extra gauges. (the customer wanted 5 gauges plus a tack).

  23. First off we didn't have an original gravel guard. Not Getting a glass one & i'm not a real fan of the stock one anyway. Solution: cut up a short deuce guard and make it fit! I think it looks much better than the stock one and it's steel.

  24. Next up was the inside floor board. I always like the wooden floors in the early fords. More on that later.

  27. I've got some time tonight so I'm trying to get some pictures knocked out. We wanted to do something a little different with the flat head and make it look subtle in a way.

  28. We wanted to pre-wire the pickup before we disassembled it for paint. We got rolls of wire from the Brillman Co. & Race our wiring guy went to work. He also made a neat little Batt. holder out of stuff from the junk drawer.
