Yeah, look thru the window, that shifter's no automatic.

That AC is a Ford unit. There were two Ford-supplied AC systems at that time that could be considered 'factory' though there was no functional difference between 'factory' and dealer-installed.

The biggest negative of the AC (pretty much all AC systems of that day) is the reciprocating compressor. I know a little Sanden compressor isn't exactly 'period' but they do work better...

    ooops! My Bad!

"It is an automatic with a Hurst "Indy" shifter...looks like a 4-speed"

Looked at the pics, saw the words Hurst "Indy" shifter.....a 4-speed, and thought it WAS a stick car.

I guess I'd add some 427 flags and REALLY throw people off!! :)

Yep..first add some 427 fender flags
to throw them off....and then, add a
    dual-quad 427 & 4sd, to blow them
    them off
    !!!:D

    Awesome car.
I had one back about '95 or so with the 390 and automatic.
Wish I still had that car. Best looking galaxie in my opinion.

  11. Very nice and brings back memories of my dads 1964 black/red interior Galaxie 500 XL. Always wished I could find that one.

  12. I'm already lookin at the 390/427 Flags for the front....Can't hurt....It has a "TASCA Ford" dealer logo on the trunk.

Regarding the shifter...I had the same type in a 66 Coronet years back. It fooled me then as well....Gotta love the look.

  13. That 289 will be way too under-powered for you, Murph, so you might as well sell it to me now and get it over with.:).........Don.

Really, really nice car. Why would you want to put flags on it for a motor it doesn't have though?! That's like kids these days that put SS badges on V6 Camaros.

Funny that people are arguing over if it's M/T or A/T when he stated what it is in the first post.

Again, great pick up. I'd love to cruise around in that car.

I think I've got a couple of 390 flag-chickens out in the workshop. They're probably not in the greatest shape, but with a small brush, a little enamel, and some time (beer seems to make fine detail work look good after a while, too...) they could be really sharp looking again. I've already done one. Shoot me a PM if you want 'em! WAS going to use them on MY Galaxie, but the drivetrain has gotten waaaaaaay out of hand and I've decided to go clean and keep 'em guessing.

Actually, I have more 63/64 Galaxie parts out in the workshop than I know what to do with. Let me know if you're looking for just about anything, LOL.

Nice Gal, My galaxie had a very similar a/c unit in the trunk when I bought it. It is going back on.

    Hey Murph,

I thought you'd like to know that the car must have started its life in Mass since Tasca Ford is in Seekonk, Mass and were huge in racing back in the day. I just looked them up online and see that they still are into racing. Here is the link. http://tascaracing.com/ Thats pretty cool! The car is awesome!

  25. Hey Paul...Thanks for the TASCA link. I was lucky to get the car...almost had to knock some lookers out of the way....I was bigger....LOL

  26. Thanks Chuck...Went to visit Greg today and we took a few pics.

Everyone, the Turq. 63 is a 9 second 1/4 mile car, but it was built for the street...went for a nice ride today almost lost my lunch......WOW.
Take a look at a few of the pics.

Great Galaxie.... Love the 63 and 64's. Be careful of that shifter, it can jump out of park unless it has some type of locking mechanism. I had one before and watched my Ranchero roll away after getting out. Do not know if the design was ever changed. Just an FYI
