So I'm out of School, got a Job, Trailered The 56 to Idaho and I'm almost ready to get It back on the Road. Its another 455, Keith Black pistons, polished rods, ARP rod bolts with fresh "C" heads,a lunati cam, and other hot rod goodies. The Interior is being redone sortof 60s style, (no grey tweed) with a 66 GTO console getting all cut up to fit the floor.
cool. I'm hopefully doing the same thing with my '55 this year, motors on its way here. I'm interested in a few things. Motor mounts , what did you do for that. Auto? did you use the T400 if so, how have you linked it up to the current selector looks like its a cable linkage for the carb? looks like a after market radiator, which one did you use. clearance for the auto ok in the trans tunnel? trans x memeber, how did you sort that out? some photos would be good if you can. looks good otherwise.
I built motor mounts, using stock rubber and bridging the gap with a wrist pin (for the big bolt) and angle Iron, its not pretty but its worked for 17 years. If I was doing it again I would look a little harder at a Hurst style front mount, It could rest on the crossmember and the little rubber biscuts would be a bit firmer. I used a TH400 but I am floor shifting it with a ZGate, BUT the column shifter should not be much different than any other column stuff. I used a lokar throttle cable (they make column linkage too) the radiator is a mid 70s GM replacement (1975 Cutlass) I mounted it in front of the core support to make plenty of room for the pulleys and stuff. I like to use as much easy to find stuff as I can. I didnt even smack the trans tunnel. A 2x4 piece of steel tubing, angle cut on both ends will work great as a trans cross member, that was the easiest part. I will try to take some detail pics, but most of them wont be pretty.
