Looking at options. Was wondering about the Ford inline 300. Suppose to be stout and reliable. I've had one in the past and loved it. Never had a problem even after 250K miles. Speed equipment available? I don't even know how far back they go... Guess I should do some research.. Wouldn't mind putting one in a Chevy! lol. Anybody use one in your ride? Pics? thx much!
I've owned several 240-300's . Iv'e had them in wreckers even . Speed equipment is avalible . I've seen stuff from Clifford Ingineering and seems to do very well. I used to know a guy running a 1987 F I stock 300 in a 1940 Chevrolet . It ranthrough a closed loop computer . I dunno, what specifily ya need , give me a P- M . scrubba
I have a couple of its older, smaller brother the 144/170/200/250 "small block" six hanging around, and I like those plenty. A buddy in high school had a 300-powered F150 and the engine outlived the truck. I always thought if I ended up with a six-powered big Ford, I'd go to a 300 instead of a V8 swap. The guys at fordsix.com make them sound plenty cool.
The 300 is the only one I would mess with...it's a good engine. The smaller sixes just don't have much power even with speed equipment. It's only a couple of horsepower behind the 302 V8, but makes up for it in torque. I wouldn't go crazy in the search of horsepower. These engines were built for TORQUE, if you can improve the torque then the horsepower will follow.
Use the search function on here. There are a bunch of threads about the big 300 six. Lots of us have built them up, and there is a bunch of speed equipment for them. Headers, intakes, cams, etc are all available. There is even threads discussing using Ford FE pistons to raise the compression. Happy Searching.
