Projects just picked up a divco from a guy who had no idea what it was.

It's a 50's divco model 22 all original driveline all in tact. Bought it on a bill of sale. Anyone know the proceedure to acuire a good title in Michigan??

I dont know if this is legal. Find the serial number and apply for a lost title. The truck has probably been off the road long enough that it is no longer in the computer. The other ,and legal way, is to apply for an assembled vehicle title. You cant get that until the truck is roadworthy.The truck will have to get a safety check done by a local policeman. It is good if you have some kind of good relationship with this guy. The state will want to see receipts for the stuff you bought for it such as tires,engine parts. They want you to pay sales tax on the value of the truck. You pay sales tax on the stuff you already paid tax on when you bought the stuff. You basically come up with a value for the truck that they will accept as reasonable. The best thing to do is go to the secretary of state office and try to find a nice person to advise you on what to do.

Nice save! If it were mine, even if those windows are not factory, as long as they were cleanly done, I think I would leave them there.

T.R.C. Check your PM and it does work. Had my titles in two weeks on both of my trucks.

 

If the Divco has a VIN# of some sort and that is on the bill of sale, find a SOS office in a small town near you, as they are generally more friendly and cooperative, and tell them you need a title.

They should give you paperwork to fill out and then you will need to have it inspected by the local police, City or County Sheriff, to validate the VIN.

You then take the signed paperwork back to the SOS, pay the sales tax after they check the computer for the vehicle VIN and then wait for a title.

Stude54 that's the old way of doing it. Police don't want to come out and check them anymore. You have to be a dealer or a scraper now to get them to come out and check your car. We covered this on the GMB social group about a year ago and have had secess with the new form. Link

That looks like it could be fun when it's done. A hunt though the truck may turn up an old registration or even the title as I found the title to a "doesn't have a title" rig I drug home for parts in the mess in the glove box a couple of years ago.

I listed the first thread about this truck. I didn't think it could be saved, more of a good complete parts truck. I pasted on it. Glad someone got it, no matter what they do with it, save it or part it.....

P.S. I find it hard and somewhat
disturbing to think that there are
people out there who could have
a DIVCO sitting around and not
having ever seen one before - not
know what it was! But then, I still
remember when thousands of these
things were in daily use, in just
about every town and city in North
America, delivering milk and bread,
door to door. Heck, from when I
was a kid, I still have some vague
memories even, of the last horse
drawn door-to-door milk delivery
wagons, that the DIVCOs replaced!

old!!
