I put this story and pictures up on my website of when I found my grand fathers '53 Buick at Long Beach Auto Swap Meet, thought some of you might like it....http://tksmith.net/2012/04/18/the-miraculous-story-of-my-53-buick/#more-2116
Hey TK, What an amazing story and killer old pics! Man I knew you had a Buick, but somehow I don't ever remember hearing that story. Glad I read that this morning. Too cool. -Aaron
Thanks, I still can't believe I found it. No one in the family can remember exactly when he did that. From the pictures it looks to be about '54. Looks like my grand dads secret is out.
Awesome story and family history! I really enjoyed reading it. Your Grandfather had great taste in cars. Love those Buicks!
Damn talk about history................ On another note...just today at Tulsa swap meet, I was looking at a 52 Buick. They sure are built and run great.
"Riviera" was the designation given to all 2 door hardtops from 49 on. Mine is a "Buick Super Riviera'' Model 56R and did come with 3 ports originally. My grandfather added the fourth port.
great story, he made a good decision to leave the humidity of indiana. that car would have rusted away in the garage!
What a wonderful story, the Buick was meant to be yours. It is a beautiful piece indeed. My Dad had a 51 Riv that I totaled at age 15, he was not a happy man. I truly love these Buick's and am very thrilled for you. ~sololobo~
What a neat story! Great reading on a Sunday morning. Hope the car stays with your family forever. John
nice car cool story glad you got it back into your family..... what size nailhead did they swap it out for? thanks again for sharing
Glad you guys liked the story. They put another 322 in it. I'm not sure what was done internaly to it or why he pulled the first motor when it was only five years old at the time. Someone told me the '53 nailheads ran hot. Maybe he had problems overheating living in the So. Cal. desert.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I reccommend EVERYONE read this "Story"................Unbelievable !!!! Smokey II Cool, Cool !
How very cool! Cars can be more than just... cars. I built my 52 Buick for sentimental reasons. It was built in my home town (Flint, Michigan) the year my wife was born. Hopefully, someday it will be appreciated like Denny's. CHEERS ! Jeff Brock
