I am so excited about this car I do not know what to do. I plan on putting a Donnie Smart 2" channeled floor in it, and I have a 1935 pick-up firewall for it. Plans are to open up the cowl vent. I will have to find a good original frame or build a new one, Plans are to put a Flathead or a Y-Block in it. It had a Y-Block in it back in 1960 when Pat Smith channeled it. Its channeled 7" in the rear and 5" in the front. I am 6'2" tall so I have to Bring it up some. Plans are a 5-speed and a Quick-change. If I have room I would love to chop it 3" or 4". I know you guys like them heavily chopped but I am to big to go further. Thanks, John

 

I forgot to mention that the car appears to be 100% rust free and the top has been Filled and looks like a very nice job. It does not have a glove box door or a header panel over the windshield. So maybe some of you guys can help me out. I would like to have a 1937 ford trunk lid handle also. The window mouldings are old chrome the rear one is pealing. The rear window does not roll down. I would like for it to. thanks, John

OK, I'm going to be the prick that tells you what to do with your car.

Why change it at all. This car is solid, basically rust free, has the PERFECT channel and just plain looks BAD-ASSED.

The stance, the bobbed fenders, etc... Are just pure sex on wheels.

Now you want to unchannel it and chop it?. I hate to break it to you but there are LOTS of chopped '34's running around. Not that I have anything against chopped cars, I love them. But, please don't take something special and turn it into just another chopped '34.

I understand your tall and worry about fitting into a heavily channelled car. Having a non-chopped '34 myself, I can verify that there is plenty of room for you if you just redo the seat. You can get a seat that sits much lower that the one pictured in the car now.

The '37 truck grill is a good look on these cars and I am considering using it on a Bonneville inspired '34 project I have. That said, Stick with the stock grill on your car. IMHO- the truck grill would not look right with the bobbed fenders and the the fenders are so cool that they have to stay - right?!?!

If you build this, car as is, and take it to any traditional hot rod show, you will be a hero. If you undo everything that makes this car special, you'll just be another chopped, fenderness '34.

I do understand it is YOUR car and you can do anything you like with it, but PLEASE consider changes very carefully.

In my opinion changing this car would be like finding the Hope diamond and then cutting it up to make earrings. If you want earrings, that's OK, just don't waste the Hope diamond to get them.

I'm climbing down off my soapbox now and will be returning into my hole soon.

Oh, by the way, I LOVE YOUR CAR!!!
