Looks great! Hopefully modifying my front end will come close to being as nice as yours are. :)

very clean work. Keep it up

  7. Thanks, Richie

Let's say I 'try' to tig.

Sadly, i just don't get enough hands on time to get real good at it - I'm a signwriter by day, and as much as I try to get out in the shop at night, I've been so busy with work lately I find that I'm just too stuffed to really make much progress on the coupe, let alone practice getting 'pretty' welds.:(

Still, I figure from where I am at, it can only get better...

    Bear:)

  8. Cheers, Kellan.

I've been watching your build with awe for quite some time!
    Very inspiring.:)

I may need to get some pointers off of you when I get to the bodywork stage...

  9. I got one of the So-Cal repro 'vette style bellhousings to mount my Tremec up to the 327.

Once I had the two bolted together, I set them in to place in a position where I wouldn't have to mess with the firewall, and where I would have a good 4 1/2 inches pan to ground clearance at ride height.

I wanted to run a Hurst type mount in this, but obviously a genuine one wasn't going to cut it with the ultra low frame height, so I set about designing one of my own.

Here's what I came up with.

Once I was happy with the look, I re-drew it in my sign-making program, cut a template in sign vinyl to double check the fit, and then sent out a file to our local profile cutter to get the plate cut.

never mind was looking upside down

  12. Once the main plate came back from the profile cutter, I drilled the mounting holes and cut a section of strap to use for the horizontal piece.
Bent it up carefully by hand in the vice to match the bottom profile of the main plate.

Tacked the two pieces together and set them in place...

Then set the block in to position.

Real pleased with how the mount flows with the angle of the front crossmember...:D

..but who the hell is ever gonna' see that!

  20. HUH? I see the spam was deleted but what's this post mean?

  21. Yeah, can't work this one out either?

Spam post has been removed already. :)

  22. Thanks again for the encouragement, guys.

Made a rear gearbox mounting out of a fabricated channel.
I cut the topside down to fit around a standard turbo 350 type mount.

    gearboxmount1.jpg

Then I welded it all back together, capped the ends to allow it to bolt into the x-member, and drilled a couple large holes to continue the 'stock' Ford theme.

    gearboxmount2.jpg

Bolted into place, awaiting a rubber mount.

Looking Good! And don't fret over the six yrs I have had mine sitting around since 1974. Keep the updates coming.

  25. I'm not so much bothered about the 6 years it sat before I got started on it - more the fact it's taking so long to make any real progress now.
There always seems to be something gets in the way. Just spent the last month moving my folks out of their home and into a retirement village -haven't been anywhere near the coupe.:(

The way things are going, I could be on mine for forty years too...

Six years is nothing to worry about. I took my finished chassis to the blaster's today after 8years of work. I have about 76 days to finish it for a show we are holding!!!!!
    Your chassis is looking spectacular!

My 38 ute has been in the build process for about 16 years and i have owned it for near 20 years. Life and other projects get in the way?
    Cheers Steve.

  28. Yours is looking pretty damn good too!

Ain't it amazing how much you can achieve when you're on a deadline:D - I think my bucket floundered for around 5 years till I entered an event with it, then I did around 90% of the work in the last month.

Sometimes we just need a bit of a push (or the fear of public ridicule);)

  29. Looks great Bear! Keep up the awesome work!

Just a Sign Painter you say. As usual your perfect eye for detail and style shows through. Good build tread mate. Nigel.
