I was living in Irvine, CA in 1989 and attended the Roadster Show that year. I shot about half a dozen rolls of film (Kodachrome 64). I've been looking for the slides for years and today one roll turned up in the bottom of a trunk that I had completely forgotten about. Thought you all might enjoy a look back in time. Things were much more "street roddy" back then. Most of the really good stuff is on the still missing film. If it ever turns up I'll try to post. Boy, I sure miss Kodachrome. It's amazing how well these slides have held up over the years.
Thanks for sharin'. The clarity of these shots is truly amazing. Especially like this roadster, which coincidentally, just ran across while looking through an old issue of Street Rodder. Also, the wire wheels(True-Spokes?) on that red '29, are so bitchin' again while flippin through another issue, saw Lil' John Buttera's Model T with Italian Borani's and knock offs. So cool AND timeless. JT p.s. The Masarati DOHC engine, was over the top, for the time.
I may have some more shots of Cal's car...if I do they are on the missing rolls of film. I'm still looking.
Wow, those slides are great.. Did you scan them to get them in digital format ?? I remember the late 80's.. good times !
Very interesting pics, I'm amazed at the quality... When I try to scan pics I've taken even from the late '90's they don't look as nearly as good as the ones you've uploaded.. This pic with the yellow coupe to me really stands out, since it doesn't seem like there were that many traditional looking cars out there, let alone tattooed people that looked like they belonged to any sub-culture in that era..
Pretty sure that is a young Rudy Rodriquez in the photo. Also pretty sure that's his yellow coupe with the filled quarter windows.

man if it wasn't for the really tall socks and shark fin wheels, these pics couldve been taken yesterday. Great color for being that old
Yes Brian, That is Rudy and his car. The Green 32 is Steve from Lime Works and me and me 46 were a car or two down from them. Nice slides, thanks for posting them!
Wow 1989, Good times, George H.W. Bush was in the White House and a way better President than the crazy Socialist that we are stuck with now. Seeing these pics bring back memories. The Fairplex has changed a lot since then. Cool pics. Thanks for posting.
sadly I was just lusting over the cars like Rudys, just out of high school and no cash....plus little skills .
Great picture of Rudy! I was at this show with my brother when I was 16 and remember seeing Rudy and thinking he was bad ass. Definitely a big influence. I remember my brother taking a shit load of pictures of this show, so I need to ask if he still has them. Thanks for posting!
