I have a chance to purchase a running 292 Chevy straight 6 cylinder, mid/late 70's I believe. It has a 3-1bbl side draft carb set up with linkage and really cool custom made air cleaners and headers. The carbs are the carter sidedraft type run on 53 vette 6 cly. Now to my questions.

    1. What type of earlier model 235 or any chevy 6cyl point type distributors will work. I just dont like the large elect. distrib.
    2. Any suggestions on hooking up a kickdown/detent cable from a turbo 350 to the 3-1bbls. I might run a stick, it simplifies things.
    3. Will the converter/flexplate from a 350 v8 bolt onto the 292 crank and work correctly.
    4. If I go stick will a V8 bellhousing work, I have access to a chrome one.
    5. What other parts interchange on the 292 to earlier 6's

Its going in a late 20's Chevy tub, so the motor is the major focus point. It already has a finned valve cover, chrome side covers and chrome pullies. Thanks for any help.

You can use a basic GM distributor but it has to fit the 250-292.
Cable linkage to the center linkage, make bracket to fit.
V8 bell works fine, same bolt pattern as 6.

The later model (late 60s and up) cranks are different, they use larger bolts and 3 dowels...just beware that you may need a different flywheel, or have to drill yours to make it work.

Any 1963-1974 chevy six distributor should work.

The 74 and earlier 292's had point type ignition . The 68 292 I have in the garage has one. I'm planning on swapping that one for an HEI simply because I'd rather have the easier starts and better performance and you can't see the distributor in my truck without getting too close for my comfort anyhow.
