    Hey Caper.....Isnt this car from the NEK? (northern NH)? I briefly talked to the owner about 3 or 4 years ago (when I had a '61 vette). It almost looks the same, but it didnt have the tunnel ram....The car raced in Maine and VT....

    Yes, this car was on ebay in 2007. Bought it from the second owner in northern New Hampshire. Had it at the Orange Drag Reunion 2011, but tech inspectors did not like the 1968 version of fabricated cross steering on the 1946 chevy truck front axle. Will add a more modern cross steering assembly for the 2012 Orange Reunion. We added the TR-1X tunnel ram to the 327 when we rebuilt it. Car is amazingly original other than the front axle.

    Caper glad to see you are keeping the overall of the look of the car. Hope it stays like that forever basically so some of the new guys in the future will see what some of these cars looked like back in the day. Some guys like the stock look but there are many examples of stock and so few left of what we did with these cars back in the 60s.

    Car cruse, The 61 (Performance Automotive) at the 5:34 mark is Dick Moroso and the 56/57 is unknown to me but looks and sounds pretty cool. Dick Moroso's sons are still running the car today although I am not sure it is really HAMB material for this thread with the present day scoop and wheels etc. Still a piece of history as Moroso did fly the Corvette colors pretty well, including a class win at Indy in 66 running DM/SP. The picture below is Dick Moroso in 1966 (I think 66) at Connecticut Dragway-Jim

    this is on ebay right now.. more funny than gasser, and might be a repro body, but has the "look" of that gasser-to-funny car transition era....
    no real info in the listing, just this-
    The car is a rolling chasis, no motor our transmission. The car has a roll bar and custom chasis. One seater with custom feet pedals. All fiberglass body with tilt front end. There are some cracks in the fiberglass. The front axle is an Anglia. The rear end is an open 56 Pontiac. It has magnesium wheels.
    Here is the only history that we know about the car: Current owner stored it in his garage for 10 years and previous owner had it in there barn since the 60's. That's all we know! The car is located in New Tripoli, PA.

    HELP---raised my vette in the 60"s with blocks i had cast at a foundry---can't remember if they were 4 inch or taller---using I beam this time---six works best but would it be too much ?

    Do you mean use 6" blocks to raise the front ? If so its not the safest way for sure, they did some goofy stuff in the 60's but thankfully we know better these days !!!

    In my opinion 6" blocks on a straight axle is not clever at all.

    Langy, there was a thread yesterday regarding the blocks used between the frame and OP was asking about 6". Admittedly 6" would be a bit high and as Vetrod pointed out there would be steering issues most likely. In addition these solid axle Vettes get a bit light in the rear at high speed and is almost like being on ice. I think the highest one could go would probably be 4", my opinion.

Back in the sixties we used 4” I beams (or h-beams as some refer to them). In the red car posted above by Baron actually those are 2” blocks (actually a 2 x 4 tube) that I modified and they do not install very easy. I would never install them again nor suggest it. The H beams are very easy to install and were the better way to go for sure. On that red car I went the 2” because I have some pretty stout front springs that raise the car on its own. I will see how it works. My black car which I have posted before had 2” blocks at first but I did not like the stance. I have since modified 4” H beams into 3” H beams and like the stance. It was a bit of work to change the H beams from 4 to 3 but I have not found any 3” H beams.


    Straight axles look pretty cool and I like them (and have one) but I would say the blocks are probably a pretty safe way to raise the car for the right look. I agree 6" would not be quite the right look unless one was trying for a Donk stance, not quite HAMB friendly to be sure.


    I have put my foot into it with a stock stance and an up stance and my scariest episode was with the stock stance. These cars are not known for their advanced suspension design (basically 1948 Chevy) but I would not trade mine for any newer style Corvette either.-Jim

    Not on a straight axle. The front suspension un-bolts in its entirely, and by bolting a 4 inch piece of I-beam ,your able to raise the frt end 4 inches without changing any other parts, nor affect the ride quaility in any way. The drag link from the box to the bell-crank is actually better positioned once raised the four inches. Hopes this clarify this set up for you.
    Hey Jim. Looks like we were typing our replys at the same time. Ifound the pic of yours by googling 4 inch I-beams in a 62 Corvette. I clearly see the 2 inch blocks now (tuff to get at the inner four bolts, I'm sure ). Thanks for straightening out my bad info.

    Baron, 2" blocks was thought out in one of my weaker moments. For some reason they went in the red car without too much difficulty but were a bear in the black car. The I-beam route is the best way to go. I guess I settled on 3" is because I wanted a level stance without reversing the shackles or changing the shackles. I had Eaton spring re-arched my rear springs as far as they would go and figured 3" on the front would be maximum. On my car at least I was right. You will note on Jim's car (Vetrod) that with the 4" inch he ended up reversing the shackles which is somewhat common I suppose with 4", if you want a level stance.-Jim

    Jim i think i have the wrong end of the stick, I thought the OP meant space the axle off the springs with 6" blocks. Sorry for the confusion.
