I've got a day to kill in Omaha this week. Just looking for suggestions for anything car/truck related to do/gawk at? If not automotive, I'm up for about anything else that might be interesting/unique. Any locals care to chime in? Thanks!

Isn't there a big aircraft museum at the USAF base in Omaha, home of the B52s?

  6. I think that is where the B36 Peacemaker is ...

Yah, the SAC Museum is pretty cool. They got an SR71 Blackbird right inside the door. I haven't heard of any "car related" stuff to see. They do have a Harbor Freight store :)

  8. Sr 71 ! Wow I haven't been there in a whole I guess

Speedway's museum is just about the only car related big thing to do in the area. Lincoln is about a 45min drive straight west on I-80. The museum is pretty easy to get to once you get into downtown Lincoln.

If you go to Lincoln, you will drive right past the exit for the SAC museum, its about a half mile off of the interstate. It is really cool too, the last time I was there, they had a Goony Bird in the restoration bay.

If you have to stay in Omaha, we do have one of the biggest zoos in the US. If you dont have kids with you though, you may look kinda creepy:D.

The Omaha Stormchasers are the AAA team for the KC Royals and they have a brand new stadium in west Omaha. Thursdays are thirsty thursdays, $1 beers and dogs.

The Old Market is our downtown area. That is where the bars and resturants are. The Upstream is a brewpub and has great food. Try their scotch ale.

If you need to get dirty, you can come over and rebuild the Holley 94 for my flathead.

My buddy owns a dive bar in the midtown area. If you get bored, PM me and Ill meet you for a beer.

There is a great Union Pacific ?? railroad museum in downtown Omaha. Really does a great job of showing how our country was settled and how railroads were a huge part of it. Lots of "traditional" stuff in the displays and videos. There are even some old cars and trucks on display as well as old railroad equipment.

83rd street, between Oak and Spring. 2 blocks south of Center street. Lots of construction in the area, may be a bitch to get to.

The Union Pacific museum is really cool, it has a lot of really neat stuff in the lower level including a late late 20s early 30s chain drive Mack truck that they still break out every once in a while for parades. It also has a really cool snack bar/ soda shop on the main level with pretty good food.

As mentioned, The SAC Museum near the Platte River along I80 is very good. Many planes to see. SR-71, B36 6-engine pusher prop. Helos

The Smith Museum in west Lincoln is a must if you're headed that way.

Back-tracking just a bit, there is another Railroad Museum in Council Bluufs IA that is very interesting.

Union Pacific Railroad Museum (Council Bluffs, Iowa) | Iowa Backroads

And don't leave Council Bluffs without seeing this. (OK, maybe a virtual tour is sufficient), but it is kinda neat to see.
