I was greasing the pink car today and realized I have not seen this tip on here.I did this in 1990,so I must have gotten it out of one of the old Tex Smith books. Can you see what I did here? Mopar A arms are rivited together. Stock the plate that the coil spring sits on is on top of the A-arm. I ground off the 6 rivits that held the plate on. then using the holes forthe rivits as a guide, drilled 6 new holes. Taking the plate from the top and then bolted and the I welded the plate to the bottom. DONE. The mount for the sway bar I think just swapped side for side with the sway bar. I got a 3 1/2 drop out of this--but a great ride. What it did to the coil spring waslike the opposite of cutting one. Instead of a choppy this old car floats like a boat.

Fords get more love because of the el cheapo en block built V8 that they introduced in 1932.
Mopar generally only gets love by virtue of the Hemi engine family.

One old time Ford fan told me the flathead Ford made its reputation on the engine alone. The brakes, steering and suspension were strictly third rate before 1949. The Plymouth had it over the Ford in everything except the engine. Chev wasn't even in it when it came to performance, the old splash oiled stovebolt had a life measured in hours if you drove over 60.

I've thought about doing this with my '53 Desoto. I can't believe you netted 3.5" from doing this, thats insane. Next question... Did you do it all on the car? or did you remove the piece?

Not sure if the R@P is the one to use--it works--mounted easy--is rear steer--had to rethread tie rod ends--it gave a big turning radius --works --I live with it--the guy that drove the car south for me today mentioned the turning radius

  17. i am going to try this soon!

  18. I was at another site and a guy wanted to know how to drop his 30 ply, so I sent him here, Don't know if the susp. 's the same.

Good and easy , got me thinking. It would be real easy to return to original ride height if you ever wanted to.

Very nice! I "was" looking at the Posie's drop set up, but I think I've found my new front end drop...now for the rear!
    Thank you!

No, the '30 Plymouths did not have Independent front suspension in their stock form. But I believe you could just move the axle above the leaf springs to get a similar result.

Very cool! Hey, now, when did you escape from Amarillo?

You going to be at the Swap Meet the first weekend of June?

Escaped Amarillo, yes----I left for the last time--A friend drove the pink car for 350 miles--said it floated down the road

  30. How much supension travel do you have between the lower a-arm and the frame? I have done this to my 40 plymouth while I'm building it. I haven't got it to the point of being able to drive it yet so I can't tell if it'll bottom but, there is only a couple inches of travel before the a-arm hits the frame. Mine doesn't have a swaybar though. Did you move the upper shock mount to the frame?
