Need help

Have flywheel casting #3789733 year 69 need pressure plate bolts.Tap say 5\16 18 thread is this correct.Everywhere I look all I see is 3\8 could it be millimeter.FORD SELLS 5/16 bolst but it a GM flywheel so confused.

 

Apologies in advance for being hard nosed.

If it's 5/16, get some 5/16 grade 8 bolts and lockwashers and put the damn thing on! I swear, sometimes mountains are made of molehills due to preconceived notions about manufacturers...

 

Need to be shoulder bolts not easy to find where I live

 

They dont necessarily have to be shouldered .... I have bolted many pressure platesto Chevy flywheels using regular hardwarestore bolts and have never had any problems !!

 

I'm on my way to the autoparts now. I can't imagine that any autoparts store doesn't have what you want/need. But I just live in the armpit of the world not New jersey.

Anyway I'll get you a part number and a price, if you can't find what you need where you live you can fire me off a M/O and I'll mail you some.

 

You need to accumulate a bunch of hardware to keep around for reference as well as to use. That way you can match up the threads and take that bolt or nut with you to the parts store. "Give me 6 like this only in grade-8".

You should have a NAPA close by I'm sure. Ace Hardware carries decent hardware and the store by me just revamped their hardware selection, nothing short of awesome.

I've seen them with short shoulders. Once you get through the pressure plate and washers, it eats up most of it.

Thank's for the help guy's.I have gone to a NAPA store and they didn't even carry grade 8 bolt's.Every oher store didn't carry the right thread size.My quest continues but I'll get that 58 chevy on the road one way or another.

Not sure I understand exactly what the problem is, but if you are concerned that the fasteners you are buying are not strong enough, you could get ARP bolts with shoulders. Like david_s914, I've used regular bolts plenty of times without a problem.
