Need some help trying to locate a new oil filter. The guy who had it before me put on a spin on type..not canister.

Anyone have any idea what/where to get a new one to fit this engine? I took it to the local oil change place and they said they don't carry the filter...special order...

Also, put 3inch lowering blocks on the stock rear leaf springs and it didn't lower the rear end....I'm thinking the shocks that are original are holding it up?

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Just get one for a later 223, 59 to 64 should work. Or if they still don't have it in the catalog, get one from a 75-96 302 equipped Ford truck.

Shocks do not hold a car up, unless they are overload shocks with springs on them, or they are bottomed out and therefore solid with no movement.

Ok, I looked on the filter and couldn't find any numbers so I took some pics to maybe help identify what would work on this engine.

    Please help!

    Thanks.

Most of those adapters used a filter that fits the majority of Fords that use a spin on.

Probably a NAPA gold Fil 1515 will work. You would have to take yours off and match the gasket diameter and threads on each to make sure though.

You might want to check out the standard Ford/Motorcraft spin-on filter #FL-1A. Is recommended for 1957 and newer for most 6 cyl and V8s. I have installed the Ford/NH brand spin-on adapters on many early Ford tractors, back to 1953, and always run the genuine Ford FL-1A filters.

    Good Luck...

I just put one on my '53 215' I bought the conversion kit from Joblot. It uses a Fram PH8A or Wix 51515

Check your rear shackles. I bet they got flipped over when you installed the lowering blocks. Thats what happened on mine.

And aren't you the one who posted about the lowering problem on another thread, did you flip your spring hangers?
