For anyone who's ever pegged the tach and banged a shift. How many people did he inspire?

Sad day for Drag Racing fans, RIP Grumpy.

  5. Another one of the great ones gone. It makes me sad to think that at my age (36) I'm unfortunately going to see a lot of our heros pass on.

Sad - never got to see him, living on the other side of the planet, but read all about his endeavours with the little mouse that roared in his lightweight Chevys.
Innovator, racer with a thirst to see how hard he could make gasoline work.
RIP, you will be forever respected.

R.I.P. Grumpy. I remember that when I was a teenager I opened up every issue of Hot Rod looking for info on how he was doing racing.

  16. If it's true that the one with the most "Toys" in the end is the winner, then we have to hand the trophy to Grumpy.

Steve Evans, here, Ladies and Gentlemen, with our Match Race Madness Final Four, today, at Cloud #9 DragWay.

On the Spectator Side: Ronnie "Mr. 4-Speed" Sox vs. his corporate competitor "Dandy" Dick Landy in the Tower Lane. And next up in the other Semi-Final will be "Dyno" Don Nicholson against that fresh new arrival Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins.

    Break out the resin, boys!

R.I.P. Bill, I got to know him very well wend he came to the Los Angeles area (1968-2008), to old Lions Drag Strip, old Irwindale Raceway, Orange County Intl Raceway, and The Winternationals with his Camaro's, Vega's and Monza's. Always made time to talk to me to see whats going on in Los Angeles. At a OCIR 1976 Division 7 meet, Bill made time to talk with me about his love with Chevrolet and the motor's. "Told it like it is". Going to miss Mr Bill Jenkins= "Mr Chevrolet". Angel N. Whittier Calif

RIP Grump, still got the t-shirt you sold me back in the '70s. Soon to be framed to go on the garage wall.

You inspired every kid who ever yanked on a Hurst shifter.
