i just bought a 1955 mercury has a 3 speed manual trans, drove it home shfited fine, got it out today and couldnt get it to shift into 3rd gear, is there an adjustment on these trannys? this is new set up to me and not familiar, i do know it need the overdrive solenoid replaced when i can find where to buy it, but wouldnt think that would affect 3rd gear???

    any help much appreciated

Check the bushings in your shift linkage.....the levers at the column and on the tranny, see if there is "slop" or excessive wear. Any significant "lost motion" could cause something like that. The adjustment of the shift rods is usually at the upper end of the rod where it connects to the column shift levers at the base of the steering column.
