Today I stopped at this cool resturaunt that over looks Lake Elsinore, the food was really good, and I was thinking....how rad would it be to cruise through Ortega Canyon with a bunch of cars and stop and get some good food, hang out, and cruise back? And maybe do the cruise a few times a year? Would anyone be interested in that? I think it would be fun! The drive is cool and the food is great. What do you guys think?

    Heres the resturaunt..

  2. Hey Taylor, I'd be coming from the south but if you guys do the cruise, it would be great to meet up with you all for lunch and hang out for a while.

Where do I sign up? Ortega is one of my favorite roads in SoCal.

  19. OK, then. Count me in. Now, if the place we're going to has a bar for Bloody Mary's, you have a winner.

Use to live out there (Riverside) and my folks lived in Hellsinore. Haven't driven that road in over 20 years. Has it changed? I know they were building houses way out there when I left Socal. It was a good ride through the canyons, and three things stood out: 1) Hot springs, 2) that sweeping curve at upper Ortega campground, 3) Hang gliders launched at the lookout road house. Those were the goodoledays. Would cruise with you guys, but live way east of there now.

'bout 25 years ago I found a '31 model A phaten in the canyon off ortega hwy. It was in a big dogwood bush, down off one of the curves as your heading down to lake smellsomemore. Rear was smashed in and axles striped off, Had frame, body, fenders etc. I was quail hunting with my dogs up in there when I spyed its front inside a big bush. Took a chainsaw and T trailer, 4x4 truck and hauled it out

    Will do!

  29. I'd be in. Been traveling Ortega Hwy (AKA State route 74) for many years. Might be fun if you start this at Cook's Corner (Chili Phil can get his Bloody Mary) on El Toro/Santiago Canyon Road , then take Live Oak Canyon through Trabuco Canyon/O'Neil park area to Antonio Parkway which then runs into Ortega Hwy. You then make the run up to the Lookout and folks can then either go down into Lake Elsinore or head back the way they came. Would make it a little bit longer ride then just up Ortega and Live Oak is a great little scenic road.

And a little History - the name for the highway is in honor of Don Jose Francisco Ortega, member of the Portola expedition, who with Father Lausen made the first attempt to found the San Juan Mission at Capistrano. There is no Ortega Canyon!

So the road that used to dead end in Trabuco Canyon now goes through to Ortega Hwy? Sounds cool! Years ago there was a way of going through Silverado Canyon up to the forest lookout and down to the campground near the fire station on Ortega Hwy. They seemed to have the gate closed all the time.

Another ride was up through the mountains (black star canyon) to Chase Dr in Corona. All this has really changed over the years!
