I am a GM man but I have to agree with hombres, the early shoebox Ford and the 40 Ford coupe were the cars of the 40's.
My honorable mention would go to a 49 Buick or one of the other GM's in the Aerosedan models. Nice lines that were probably influenced by the great Harley Earl.

I've been working on my '40 Ford coupe for three plus years now and I still can't look at without thinking to myself how small it is and how beautiful it is. The lines on a '40 coupe just flow so perfectly from front to back. Lower the front end a few inches and its perfection on wheels. Hope to be driving mine in a few more months!

I guess I am the oddball. I dont care for '40 deluxe coupes. I think the '40 standard is cooler.

1940 Willys coupe is the #1 choice for me! I like the Fords,Caddys,49 Merc,49 Olds and of coarse the Tucker as well.

    40 Ford coupe--deluxe or standard--but I'm a little biased

  16. I totally agree. I'm talking about blue collar cars here. You know Ford nailed this one when it's difficult to make them look better. Perfect styling. Just the right size. It's got it all.

    It's unfair because IMHO,the Darrin is a custom.The 49 Ford is timeless,though.

Hands down the best looking car of the 40s. The prototype 4 door sedan is even better looking.

  25. No 46-48 Dodge mention? Bummer...

    Maybe I'm just a tad biased :)

I just want that guy's suit. A '48 Ford ragtop (moving the parking lights beneath the headlamps made that design) would just be icing on the cake. A '42 Buick convertible, or a '47 Chevrolet Fleetline Aerosedan would make excellent consolation prizes.

I personally love all cars from the 40's, I dont think we will ever see such style and attention to detail again.
But I am drawn a little more to the 46 Ford ( I wonder why?)

I never did like the grill on a '40 much, but in '41 they got it right...;)
