Update on Studebaker Camper. The day I picked it up it had a 390 Ford stuffed in it. When I finally got it running the engine turned out to be a toad. Wouldn't pass a gas station or oil can. So I converted it back to Studebaker with an upgrade. Installed a 1961 Studebaker truck 289 V8 and the 3 speed with OD and even used the Dana 60 differential from the donor truck (the one with the Dodge bed). It works great and last September I did this with it:

Towed the Avanti 1700 miles to the salt flats of Bonneville. Wasn't without it challenges but it was a blast. The looks and the thumbs up and people taking photos was amazing. Even had a guy follow me until my next gas stop so he could take some pictures of it. Not every day you see a Studebaker camper towing an Avanti.

The Avanti is up for sale. Plan to use my share of the proceeds to build the 53 Stude into a driveable nostalgia street gasser. Going to be very unique but can't share details yet. Look for the build forum. I gave the 49 to my daughter. She is going to restore it as a ranch truck. Father/daughter project and already having fun.

  17. OK here's my 40-41 PU, bought this one in '87, drove it for a couple years with the flatmotor in it, then in '91 we took it all down to the frame for a little clean up, that's when thinks got out of control! It's get'n closer to being finished but it's been a very long ride!!

this is the tribute truck l finished last year in my sons honor...

    1948 dodge 1/2 ton 5 window, 1977 nova sub-frame, 327 SBC, 200 R-4 transmission and a 12 bolt 3:36 posi out of a 1973 camaro, C-notched rear frame rails.

l did not even have to cut the front springs, the stance landed perfect (to me)

    Later

The Camper is a 1952. 32,000 mile survivor. Upgraded to 1961 Studebaker 289 V8 and Borg Warner T85 3 speed with R11 overdrive and Dana 60 differential. That allowed me to switch to 16" wheels and 8 blot wheels which are common and plentiful.
