  5. I like them, I've always liked them but then I've been in this hobby for nearly 50 years and I like a lot of the old stuff. Bellflower tips on a custom are cool too, whatever happened to them? Nice job truckedup 29.

I'd like to know more about the history of this trend.

  7. Barris used 36 Ford headlights when he did a ROLLED pan on a 32. I had that magazine also

  8. I made sort of a fake one for my 41 chev truck, from the side it's more of a filler but looks rolled panish. I didn't want a rolled pan from the rear view though.

I know what happened to them in my area. The roads were rutted so bad you would tear them off. This was back in the fiftys. I'm building a 1945 chevy pickup for my grandson and am using one on the back. [This started out as a ton and a half military truck.] I narrowed an s-10 frame and set it on. the roads are a little better now so I think we can get away with it.

its one thing to put them on the front and back but when you just do a rear roll pan its like looking at a chick with a nice butt with no boobs i've seen alot of f100's that just had the rear roll pan done and a bumper out front and the truck only looks half done

Looks killer KRIPFINK!! Im gonna round every corner too!

THIS COULD BE USED AS A ROLL PAN, BUT I WILL RUN THE BUMPER WITH CUSTOM BRACKETS SO IT'LL BE REAL CLOSE TO THE BODY. I HAVE THE RARE WRAPAROUND BUMPER.

there were a lot of rolled pans but most cars were street customs and you needed bumpers

I agree that for the younger generation (I'm 21 myself) the big chrome bumpers are part of the coolness/uniqueness of old cars, at least post-war stuff all the way up to the plastification in the 80s.

To me, removal of bumpers (even in the context of a well-done rollpan) makes most 38 up to OT cars look newer and less 'timeless'. It's something that's hard to make work in the context of a traditonal custom. As part of a pure street machine/drag car, or a streetrod/pro touring where the object is modernizing it makes sense. It's just not what comes to mind for most younger people when trying to do TRADITIONAL (even if we know it happened back in the day) because big unbendable chrome bumpers are an integral part of the appeal of driving an older car.

Perhaps the fact that most full size pickups still have mean steel bumpers is part of why pickups and vans (kripfink's is incredible) rollpanned look ok.

    Just some food for thought.

Looks like a Mod. that's still used a lot on trucks, and Rods. Some great examples shown.
My original intent on my posting though, was rolled pans on '50s and '60s full size customs...
What I'm not understanding is all this talk about having bumpers, but it seems to be not a concern,
    if it's a truck, a rod, or a van...?
I guess since I grew up in the Midwest, ('50s-early '60s) it was more of a regional thing that
    I remember from back then.
