Some days it just doesn't pay to go out to the shop. Luckily no damage to the car and no heart attack.
That's the stuff bad dreams are made of. I've actually had that bad dream. We all need to know exactly how that happened, even if it's embarrassing.
Looks like home-made design here and I'm NOT KNOCKING IT but think more on safe guards so this doesnt happen in future. Good luck. And again this isnt meant as a slam.
I had something similar happen and no damage but elevated pulse, sweaty palms etc. it happens when you do not pull the release lever far enough so all the stops disengage. One or two hang/remain engaged and that is the result....
That's a shit ya pants moment. I've seen it happen twice, one was on an inground lift and one of the lock mechanisms broke and sent the truck down at an angle. Ended up twisting the frame. I've never seen upclose an above ground lift fail. That sucks for your heart but glad the car is okay!
a local guy had some thing like happen with a totaly different ending,{killed him} go buy a lotto ticket!
Looks like a pulley seized on the shaft and twisted it off. It is a quality hoist but I definitely will be lubing the pulleys and checking them from now on.
Seriously..... What brand is it??? AND Did the car get any damage??? I'm able to ask these questions because it's obvious that you're okay.
The legs are bolted to the floor and the "home made" thingy is the A frame that I lifted that side up with.
WOW !!!You must be irish. Best go buy a lottery ticket or two. I keep a close watch on mine anytime I raise or lower it. Anybody that has a lift bolted to the floor CHECK the nuts as they will tend to loosen up & lube all the pulleys & locks occasionaly. Lifts need PM just like any thing mechanical.
Weasel hit it the nail on the head. friend has one like that and has had the mishap happen twice. So far no damage. His is a good lift. He juist failed to pull the release hard enough. The lifts should be lubed ever so often also.
Man you are a lucky one! Looks like a propark 7 or similar, I have 3 of them. I use them for storage only, I dont trust them enough to work under them, every time I am raising or lowering them I am constantly watching all 4 corners for any signs of trouble. The newer ones have better locks similar to a backyard buddy, earlier ones are a bit more dicey but work.
I can't remember the brand name but it looks just like mine, came out of Texas. Never had a problem with it but you gotta watch it when lowering to make sure the locks release. I don't have mine bolted to the floor, its supposed to be mobile around the shop if needed, it came with wheels that are removable. Normal Norman
