    I love the hamb!

Im glad to see someone getting somewhere with there ride I keep going backwards.

I think it looks great did you ever think about maybe some mesh screen concaved in there. Although I think the ribs on the back end of the lenses may propose a problem with that idea.

    LOL
I wonder why I've never heard Brush, or Safariknut, Barnett, McPhail, etc. proclaim their artisticness before...oh wait...is it because they don't have to? Because it just SHOWS?
My dad has a degree from the Ontario College of Art....I don't think I've ONCE heard him tell anyone he's "an artist". He just does his thing, then people are amazed. For the record, he likes the taillights on the Olds. So does that make him an "artist" with bad taste? I guess I'm not quite understanding your philosophy....unless you just have a God complex, and that's completely rediculous :p

    Kustombuilder,
There was NO contempt expressed nor intended towards you, only sarcasm intended for the FEDS. Creative expression is one reason we build our cars, right? The other is to be different than all the sameness of Neons, Altimas,
et al. Keep being creative. I know you couldn't let me off easy, considering I haven't been posting very long. No offense taken by me. I understand the need for attitude. Both of my kids inherited my sense of sarcasm, BIG TIME.

    mike, you tinkering bastard.
damn you for doing something nice for mongo.
you should have thought of my genitals before you made something out of metal that could potentially injure me.
from now on, you need to consult all of us on the hamb before you make any artistic decisions regarding anything automotive...you my friend need to take into account the likes and dislikes of everyone who will be looking at pictures of said artistic renderings.
you must first and foremost make sure that everyone is happy, then and only then may you continue with your artistic vision, no matter how warped it will become.
you need to adhere to the highest standards here on the hamb. and you will be run out of town on a rail if you are to in any way neglect the concerns of your peers.
"ve vill make ze taillights in ze manner that vill exhude conformity and VILL NOT draw ze attention of ze gestapo...."

for fucks sake people...just be happy that mike is building something out of metal, on a car, for a friend....if you have a negative opinion about these taillights, why not offer some CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM instead of just telling him how dumb you think they are.. SERIOUSLY, would you walk up to a complete stranger and tell him how ugly his wife is or insult his kids??
this is something that a person has put time, thought and effort into... when was the last time that any one of us put that kind of effort into something???

ok, everyone who reads this....head to the garage and make a set of custom taillights...in one week we will all post pictures and then have a huge "my kustom taillights are way better than yours" post. it will be the best shitstorm post ever. but atleast we will have done something instead of wasting away in front of the computer.

i think they look badass , and i already told you i think the work is nice, and i am all for endangering my life or anybody else's for that matter, but not the litte kids at car shows who or are eye level with that bitch. and if you have ever been to a car show you know them little bastards will be all over it.thats all i am saying, if i run into it i am an idiot who wasnt paying attention, if a little 5 year old kid does and he cuts his fucking head open, you should get your ass kicked.i dont think it would hurt the look, one bit to change curve it would still be sharp but not impaling sharp.

Why should Mike get his ass kicked? The parents should get their ass kicked for not controlling their kid. And if the kid dents the point, the parents should pay to fix it. Put the blame where it belongs...

Mike - put some of those DANGER-----> decals from fighter planes on your quarter panels, and make the bleeding hearts happy.:D

jesus!!!!! when i saw all the new pages i thought i was gonna see them smoothed and in primer.... not 3 pages of drama.. wtf? good job on the lites it looks nice , i wonder if sam barris was worried about little timmy when he was creating new quarter panels and lites? i bring my 5 year old girl to car shows all the time she has to hold my hand ALWAYS ! not only for things like that, but cars driving around , hot headers ., etc.. i hate when good posts go bad

  13. What color are you painting the car? If you're going with the maroon, I much prefer the red lenses over the blue ones;)

And for a little background, I've never set foot in an art school so I guess I shouldn't even be commenting:D

Take a dip in the pool, cool off and have a nice 4th!

  14. Wow. Next time I am at the junkyard, you will find me sawing the taillights out of a '60 olds with about 12" of fender to turn sideways and tack on the back of my fleetline. Just got the idea looking at these pictures... one guy I know I can cut up a couple for $25 or so, can't go wrong there.

They'd also work I think the way they're supposed to go, frenched into the back of the car.. I'll have to play and see what I like best, but that's different enough without being rediculous - just what I wanted to figure out.

I normally don't like the '59 Cad lenses becuase they're everywhere, but that really works good on this car. Especially something like a '60 Olds - they're tough cars to do much to without screwing the lines all up, you have to have a good sense for the art side of things to make changes that work.

Boy I'm enjoying the hell out of this thread.

The taillights do look a little dangerous but this is coming from a guy who's got a chrome tit in the middle of his forhead.

I helped Mike do the first side and I can tell you all that those points are not sharp at all and are not even as pointy as they look. So just watch were the fuck you are going. The last thing you want to do is walk into Mongo's car. You may make him angry, and you would'nt like him when he's angry. They do'nt call him Mongo because he some happy go lucky elf sized guy so it would be a good idea to make Mongo a friend. Maybe he will take some sweet pics of you and your car some day.

i absolutely LOVE new socks!! ;)

this just proves my point that only posts with high dramatic content will get any response. :D this is the same reason people actualy watch that idiot Boyd Coddington on TV.

i love you all. Kritz, you so funny!! and, thats a good idea ;) ...

BTW. the fins are no sharper than they were stock. they just hang 6" further off the back of the car. we will go the extra mile to make sure no little kids, or morons, get hurt on the taillights at the show.

well. i'm whooped. been a long day of driving, walking around the bone yard and pulling rearends out and apart. yes, Mongo and i drove WAAAAY up north to Levis Classic's super secret bone yard to get a replacement rearend for the Olds. after 3 hours of trying to remember where in the hell that 59 Olds was i saw last year, and following Levis Classic's directions to look on the EAST side of the yard (i should have known when he said "east" he ment west. it's not the first time he's done that to me  ), we finaly found it in ammungst a bunch of other cars on the side of a hill. getting the rear end out was no biggie (i'm just glad we brought the torches) but getting the damn thing apart was a challenge. we sure were'nt gonna buy it, after driving that far, if it was'nt any good.

lots of work to do on Mongo's death ride tommarow. see ya all at the RUMBLE...

  21. I crashed my computer( too much porn) so I hav'nt been on here to read all of this, WOW!! If you do'nt like the taillights tough shit. I like them and thats all that matters. If those piss you off wait until we put the knife blades on the bumpers and the spears on the fenders.:) Once you see them in person you will see that they are not sharp and not that pointy. They are no more dangerous then anything else out there.

I like the design and the work. To me it flows with the car. When you guys are finished I would love to see the finished painted product.

i like the fins, good work Kustom. if people don't use their own 2 eyes and look where they're walking then that's too frickin bad for them. maybe they'll learn for the next time.

OK! spent the afternoon (and all night) workin on the Olds. Mongo and Pinball stuffed the new center section in the housing and buttoned that all up while i worked on mounting the taillights and finishing the fab work on the left fin. WHOO! what alot of work. Pinball and i just came in the house at 3am. i think Mongo left about 1 or 1:30am, i was'nt lookin. after Mongo left Pinball wired up the new taillights. no easy task since the stock ones were'nt working correctly partly due to a broken turn signal switch and mostly due to some split wires. he has tailights and brake lights now though. i'm just glad we got her ready to go to the Rumble in the morning. we're gonna be some tired out sumbitches tommarow i bet.

well, here are the pics. notice how i "child proofed" the fins  . if anyone lets there child near it now the're an IDIOT!! :D MUUHAHAHAHA!!!

we did get lots of compliments on them and even had a photographer from Ole Skool Rodz takin a TON of pics of it and asking me all about it.
