Great tech! How long do those nylon dies last before you need to cut a new pair?

  2. What process do you use to cut the profile for the cutting edge? From the pictures it appears that there is a tapered edge to them. Isa that correct or just the angle of the picture?

Long enough to make beads for pick-up body... ;) Sharp edges will wear out quite quickly.

That's what I thought... but they look cheap enough to make multiple copies as needed. Great idea.

Ya know, every once in a while you run across something that let's you know that your are doing it the hard way. This is one of those times. The way your dies are made is so simple ...why didn't I think of that? You have just made my life easier. There is a bunch of stiff competition this time around. This one get's my vote, hands down.

That's a neat way to cut the dies!! Did you have a sharp edge on the profile peice you used to cut with? That plastic can be hard to hold, I would think it would chatter like crazy!! What kind of speed did you use when you made the cut?

Edit: I see the edge now in the side shot. I have to try this now:)

Can't remember... it's been a while since I made these. Nylon rod tends to melt, so take your time and cool it off with air and/or water rag.

When you are almost done with your new nylon die, let it cool off totally.
You'll want to work with cooled nylon last few millimeters to get more accurate surface. Pockmark or notch on your tool will affect the bead...

Thats a neat idea with the dies.
Have you any idea where that steering wheel is from on your bead roller?
I have pretty much similar operating wheel on my roller,i dont have clue where its from.
Some old truck or bus maybe...
