Here are some pictures of the car from when it was in Wisconsin. On one of the pictures you can see the door frame isn't finished from chopping the top. The smaller pictures are from 1968 the 429 came out in 1969 I believe.
Nice, pics, looks like a helluva motor in there. But ideally you need to re-scan them and set your scanner to save then as .jpg files, then we could see them more easily. Mart.
In my opinion those Willys coupes look like Hell chopped. It completely ruins the beautiful lines of those bodies. I saw Hill and Zartmann racing the coupe many times.I've got a picture on the garage wall signed by Pork Zartmann.
i want to thank you for the pics. now, you will never know what you have done to my summer build plans.i was going to paint my d.d. 62 galaxie and put a straight axle under myn 53 ranchwagon.but after those pics ive almost decided to build my 41 glass willys. i now if it aint steel it aint real. but after talking to a old timer, he told me that they went to glass body parts any time they had a chance and if glass were available back then everone would havde run them.well that has helped me make up my mind about building it.the pics were just icing on the cake!! thanks, i really do love the pics.lol
What rear is under there? and the wheels? did somebody drill the double hole design? did they start out solid like the ones' on Dave Hales' car? You didn't need to post the above picture Wanda, it has an affect on my vision and things get kinda hard to see - if you know what i mean.
Very neet to see these new/rare shots. Thank you hallrods!! Wanted to be sure you've seen this thread Lot of history there too... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=97109 I cleaned up the photos a bit more...they really are appreciated by us old fans. I added them here along with a shot of the Filthy Forty Tribute Coupe. Bet we'd be amazed how many hearts it broke to see it get chopped, but even more to see its demise. But whoever ran it after it sold had to have a blast in it. Thinkin' everyone who ever got behind the wheel of that bad boy had to yell 'WOOOOO HOOOOO'. Fans sure did. Alan
We were very proud to be able to call Pork our friend. It's very rare that you get to know someone who had such a spot in the history of drag racing. He was a great man. It will be 2 years on the 28th that we lost him. I still think about him everyday. O.J. sorry if i upset you by posting the picture but it's one of my favorites and it was the first one that Pork gave us.
One of the first times i met Pork i asked him what it was like to drive that car and he just looked at me and said "I didn't do anything special" I beg to differ. I have watched films of that car going down the track getting air in every gear. He could really drive that thing. He would never talk much about it being rolled. I could tell that it upset him so i never asked any questions about it.
