Very nice and you can use any size tubing you want IMS has all of the parts you need. We are lucky to have such a great source for metal.

You mentioned something about an o-ring in the picture? I just don't see it. Maybe it is to the right or left of the engine -oh well, I am sure it isn't important.

Dude....Don't sweat these HATERS!!! They always want to criticize something that they didn't make or wasn't their idea 1st!! Your Tech was awsome and I'm definitely gonna build 1 from my '54 Bel Air. I Frigg'n LOVE that Bullet horn button!! I'd be totally stoked if I can figure out how get 1 to fit on my '54's steering wheel horn ring. Is that a bullet center cap from a chrome steelie?

A little late to the post (just joined the forum)... but, those labels that note 1-1/4", thats a pipe size, not a tube size.

Tube is sized by the OD.

Pipe is sized oddly, very roughly, the ID is the size, but in reality, its usually bigger.

If that is 1-1/4" pipe, then it has a 1.66" outer diameter.

Schedule 40 1-1/4" has an average 0.14" wall thickness, so that means an inside diameter of 1.38".

So that 1-3/8" bearing slips right in

The wall thickness changes per pipe schedule and pipe size, its hard to keep track of:

Thanks, inspires me to make my own column. The slip collar is a good idea, but the way you did yours is fine also. There are millions of factory steering columns out there in use with holes drilled all the way through the steering shafts. I had a OT Mustang drag car and the factory column in those have a hole drilled all the way through the shaft with a bolt and pinch nut holding the steering shaft to the column about 50% material gone. Ford engineers thought it was just fine. Your hole you drilled in your column has way less material removed. It will be fine.

 

Awesome tech. I used those OSH bearings on my old steering column too. Haha
